Breck vs Orono for the 2A championship Thursday night! That might have been the preseason prediction for the final, but definitely not expected after the disastrous end the Mustangs had to the regular season. I wasn’t too surprised by the QF win given Delano’s lack of offensive punch and Breck’s victory over them early in the season. But Breck pretty much carried play against Mound-Westonka after some jitters early in the game.

Breck is by far the lowest seed remaining (TRF is next as a four seed). I am certainly not expecting a win over Orono and a state berth, but the Mustangs are playing with house money at this point and did have a close game with them in December. I know that I have been down on Breck for most of the season, and this is not a super talented group, but it is nice to see the kids rebound and refocus during the section playoffs.

Not sure if I have ever said this before but,

I am cheering for Breck.
(despite their failure to educate some people)

Mahtomedi won in overtime over Northfield, which certainly was a surprise.

Hey, I resemble that remark! (Though my terrible eyes almost missed it.)

And I know you secretly love all of the Twin Cities teams, particularly the private schools.

I still have no idea why Northfield was moved to Section 4A, but it looks like they have some good young talent and could pose a serious threat next year. That section turned out to be surprisingly good overall, and not the cakewalk that was expected for Mahtomedi.

Hill's one of my favorites, I do like some more than others, but STA could drop hockey and I would be happy, heck, STA can close the doors for good on the whole school.

So Go Mustangs!
