The year of the MISSED OPPORTUNITY?

Every year has its “theme” or underlying story. This year is certainly one of missed opportunities. Never before have I seen so many whiffs. I think there must have been 20 plus grade A scoring opportunities in the tournament and the puck seemed to freeze to the ice as the shooter simply missed everything. This happened in A and AA almost once every period of the tournament it seems.

Holy Family couldn’t finish off Tonka in the section final with 3 seconds to go and a chance to make a play to clear the zone at the end. Then they had a golden opportunity for a breakaway early in OT, but again, kid whiffed.

Edina’s goalie surely will spend a lot of his life looking back and asking what if? One small lapse cost so much.

And in the final. Duluth had...ten? golden opportunities to put a puck in the net. So many power plays. Lots of “just missed”.

It was a great tournament, but I think there were more, a LOT more, small errors, yips, whiffs, and misses than I ever remember.

NO. It was the year of running the goalie and see if the refs had the balls to call a penalty.

It was the year of Minnetonka having another great team and not missing their opportunity this time.

I thought the same game watching the game last night. East had so many point blank chances but couldn’t get that third goal. Have to be kicking themselves this morning .

Edina had to have the same feeling after Friday game.

No missed opportunity for the Skippers.

They rattled off 13 wins following the loss to Edina at Braemar, outscoring their opponents 83-28 in that stretch.

They took over the #1 ranking in the state after beating Edina in February and didn't relinquish it.

Congrats to the boys in blue and white on their 1st state title.

Congrats to the Skippers on a great year and a great tourney! The title is much deserved!

Looked like the year of the big first line having a difficult time generating any offense in the big games. Tonkas best players were able to score all tourney and that’s a big part if how they came out on top.

Section 8 Guy nailed it:

Big time players, make big time plays, in big time games:

Loheit line - 6 goals in tourney
Brink line - 5 goals in tourney
Tonka D Corp - 5 goals in tourney

Skipper depth showed up big time
