NAHL Showcase notables

Posting here since the junior forum is a bit (quiet).

There was some good games in Blaine this week (NAHL and 16U). I didn't see any 15U or 18U games.

Players that did well or stood out (current high school kids or former)

----

F Matt Stanton (1998-Stillwater- Magicians) 4 goals

G Ethan Haider (2001-Jr Maple Grove- Magicians) 2W-1L 2 shutouts .967 1.00GAA

D Andrew Hicks (1999 - Minnetonka- Janesville) 3 goals

F Jordan Randall (2000- Maple Grove- Corpus Christi) 4 Goals including hat trick

G Mitchell James (1999 - Maple Grove - Magicians) 1W-0L 3.00GAA .914

G Zach Stejskal (1999 - Grand Rapids- Wilkes Barre Scranton) 0-1-1 3.46GAA .916 - Played against USNTDP17s and stopped 44/48.

F John Keranen (1998 - Delano - Magicians) 3 goals

F TJ Sagissor (1998- Stillwater - Janesville) 2G 2A 4 points

D Lincolm Erne (1998 - Blaine- Minot) 2G 1A 3 points

F Tim Piechowski (2000 - Sr Eden Prarie - Bismarck) 2G 1A 3 points

D Cameron Buhl (1998 - South St Paul - Magicians) 5 assists

I thought Jack Johnston (SP), Jax Murray (ER) and Matt Koethe (Tonka) all played well for Alaska Fairbanks.

-----

Saw both USNTDP17 games. They are a bit undersized and will heavily struggle against the USHL teams. They snuck out wins 4-3 both games against NE Generals and WBS Knights. While they play a more skilled game, they lack the physicality to take over the games like the 01's did last year. Connor Kelley, Brock Faber, Owen Gallentin all played fine. 17's BEST players are Slaggert, Tuch, Berard and Kleven.

-----

16U

Meijer and Blizzard were solid. A SC Top Ten play occurred in OT when Meijer beat the Blizzard.

Also to add it was disappointing to hear Jack Jensen was injured and find out Jackson Jutting was injured in game 2. Hopefully they will be back for the Magicians or in time for the high school season assuming they are doing before and afters. I saw Ryan Antonakis (LVN Senior)play his first game and he looked good for the Richfield based MN Magicians.

It's definitely a great brand of junior hockey, but if you go get your money's worth. $25 day or $50 for all 4 days.

I watched part of a period and thought they looked huge. How many 6'4" 16-year-olds that can move do they have!

This is a nice team. The ones you mention plus Pajor, Wong, Ellings (real impressed with this 10th grader), Paradises, Thielemann, and more. The success of the CCM team in the Elite Leauge is testament to the depth in Minnesota and I think seeing the Blizz doing well is another example. I was too busy this weekend to follow what happened with the Blades, but I'm sure their teams fared well too.

As someone pointed out, Hunter Johannes looked very solid too in a game against the Magicians. Wasn't that long ago, he was setting up Mittelstadt for one timers.

Thanks, I hope people add to the list weekly updates. I go to many of the Wilderness, Magicians, and Bruins games in addition to local HS games. I know many of the local kids, but not all lol!

A few moves this week.

Atticus Kelly (2000 - STA - Graduate) to the Bismarck Bobcats

Colin Schmidt (2000-WAYZ - Graduate) has left the USHL and joined the Jamestown Rebels

Ricky Lyle (2000-Duluth East) has joined the 1st place Magicians in time for their trip to Alaska. Anyone have any insight on this? He is a senior or did he graduate?

He played Elite League this fall, so he is a senior. This may be why he didn't play the last two games of the tournament. Interesting to see how this works for him, as Garret Worth did something similar, but no other DE guys did something like this last year, or this year so far. An interesting catch there 612.

Assuming just trying to maintain his edge and increase exposure for last 2 weeks of preseason .
An often underrated kid who should have a big year and eventually play D1 hockey somewhere

His name seems to be popping up a bit more lately. He was recently moved into the top 5 uncommitted on YHH for this year's senior class as well. Hopefully, things turn out for him.

The best player on DE (not yet committed) is Hunter Paine...and it’s not even close. Several other non-committed juniors & Seniors (on DE) have a shot at playing D1 after a year or 2 of juniors (likely in the NAHL). But Ryder & Hunter are the straws that stir the drink for the hounds...with PLENTY of support from the various crew members of that ship 😉☝️

Lets not forget Cochran. Paine and Cochran are among the top 3 first Dpair in the state. I could see Sandelin trying to grab 4-5 of this years Deast team.

Just because DE is in their backyard hasn’t historically resulted in DE players landing at tUMD (at least since SS has been their coach) Toninato & Wilenski, yeah, but not many other DE players in recent years. Hermantown on the other hand, quite a few. You have to remember, tUMD is landing NTDP caliber players (at least right now) with 4 in the pipeline. Pretty tough team to break into. I do see them recruiting Joey Pierce, but a lot of teams will be pursuing him IMO. Agree though that Cochran is a good player.

Well said 59. Glad you got my back. Should have said Deast will have 4-5 D1s somewhere.

Agree on Pierce, would be shocked if he didnt end up at UMD

Lyle is playing with them before the season starts. He will be back at East on a line with Donovan.
