Nice first show. Amazing how much research you must do in advance and also crib notes, since you all have great grasp of all the details for all the teams for the preseason show. As always, would encourage Karl to butt in/speak up more, although difficult when not in studio. Danny does a good job as moderator, and of offering Karl the mic from time to time, but still thinking the time split is probably 40/40/20?

Also, will reiterate my comments on the phone to Tony a while ago, on the good job Todd and Peter did on the first girls HS podcast!

It is sometimes hard with everything since Karl is on the phone. I can't read Karl's facial ques or hand raises so I tend to play off Tony in studio more. Although I will say that I think we do get better at it as the season rolls along.

To comment on Danny's point about this Edina team having the least amount of offensive depth since the 2011-2012 team... I think you can make that argument and it is somewhat true. If you look at that team they had two 40 point scorers, one was a sophomore and one was a freshman but after that you had a 26 point scorer, a 20 point guy and then a bunch between 7 and 15 points. So it is true in the sense that the scoring was a bit lacking, but they were still a deep offensive team. They played three lines deep, they had 10 players go on to play d-1 and one WHL player and 7 of those guys played forward. They were the only team that challenged Benilde in the State tournament that year and besides one forward with 8 points, they all came back to win a state championship the next year where they played four lines and Willie Brown from Hill in the post game press conference kept talking about how deep a team Edina was.
So I can somewhat see the point Danny is making, but I still think that was a deep team. I think you might have to go back a bit further to find an Edina team with less depth.

Undefeated

They don't play a Lake Conference schedule and all tough games are on home ice. Not a tough schedule, they won't have a hard time getting up for East or Hockey Day. Oh, and I think they are really good.

I don’t think Andover will go undefeated, besides HDM vs Tonka & hosting DE, they have to play ER home & home (featuring Foss & Michealis) Blaine home & home (featuring Brosz, Hillman, big PF Junior whose name escapes me) and veteran Daninger in the nets, MG home& home (with all but one of their Bantam AA champ players + 2 Div 1 committed seniors) & Moorhead. So 9 relativity tough games. But I do think Andover does what ER has failed to do...emerge from 7AA as their representative at STATE.

Elk River also has a very nice player in Humphrey.

Andover could lose at Blake on January 8th.

Yeah, Blake is good too, so that’s ten, plus 2 with Centennial (who is down) & one against Champlain Park, which is decent. The other half of the schedule will feature some running time games...

I agree their depth that year was very good in hindsight but that was a more unproven depth with all (most) of the seniors being cut from the team. I do not remember Dylan Malmquist's numbers to predicted to be as high as they were that season because his scoring really helped that team. I think this year could be less like 2012 in that I see that their could be 3 Hornets forwards with 50+ points but the depth is not the caliber of Fidler, Munson, Brauer...

As my thoughts for Andover, I do not think they will go undefeated. The Northwest Suburban, though it is down, schedule is very stop and go between teams like Irondale and then MG or Blaine so in my opinion this might cause them to slip up. Good examples of this from last season would be White Bear's lost to Rochester Century or Cretin tying Stillwater.

Perhaps he meant conference games only?

Well...at least Tony found a worthy NW Suburban team (this year) to leap on to their bandwagon...and has dumped his 3 year crush (Centennial) 😳😉🤣

As I alluded to in my rankings comment, my thought on the last Edina team to be as unbalanced as this one was probably the 08-09 team with the Gaarder/Lee/Everson top line. (There was some real talent on the lower lines, but I don't think it produced much, or was used in a way to allow it to produce much.) Otherwise, you probably have to go back to their early 00s lull when they weren't very good.
