Tonka Kittleson scores first

Lagerback makes it 2-0

Paine injured

The few games I’ve seen this year, Hounds seem reluctant to maximize their size advantage. Rydo and RLyl need to forecheck more

Jones scores , from Cochran ! 2-1. Sogs 13-7 Tonka after first

Hendrickson makes it 3-1 Tonka

Kittelson makes it 4-1 on a great 2 on 1 rush

Rydo Just had an opportunity to put a sizable forecheck on Doctor but for some reason passed

Luedtke with Ppg 5-1 late in 2nd

Tonka has unbelievable offensive depth , and top Dpair in state

But Hounds need to reassess how best to deploy their strengths and advantages . Not doing that so far ImHO

Bayless and Henry questionable for third period

Ricky Lyle great snipe , now 5-2 with 9 to go

PP for Hounds with 6 to go

5-2 final

Orono wins 5-4 over Greenway in OT. Tough weekend for the Raiders in dropping two OT games by the same score. With a few small breaks, Greenway could be sitting at 7-8 instead of 5-10.

WM, any idea what happened to Bayless? I watched most of the game but didn't see if he got injured. Thanks.

Good summary WM 👍 I’ve now seen DE against WBL, Andover, Cloquet, Blaine & Tonka. Also seen last 2 periods of Tonka vs STA & todays game vs DE. And Andover against DE & ER. Tonka is clearly the best of the three, but in a low scoring game, Andover has a decent chance of pulling the upset vs Tonka, in outdoor conditions on Hockey Day MN. With the disclaimer that I’ve yet to see Edina this year, Andover is the only team I’ve seen this year that can match Tonka’s speed and quickness, although I doubt they can match the Skippers passing precision so Fritz will need to steal one 😉

I just looked at Central’s schedule, and they have laid waste to everyone, with Fargo Davies and EGF the only teams to come within three goals. They also beat Orono 10-0, so at least the Wave fared better!

They actually outplayed Central but the EGF goalie, Tucker Brown, (a good goalie), had a brief tough stretch in the 3rd and that was it.
I don't feel bad about it though, because Central is really good this year.

They play again in a couple of weeks.

Mahtomedi just tied STA at 1 midway through 2nd.
Zephyrs can’t catch a break in their own building, with the STA goal coming after the clock remained stopped for about 30 seconds and extending a Cadet PP.

Thoughts on Tonka-East:

First off, the Skippers are clearly #1. I like them more and more every time I watch them; while they don't overwhelm like some Edina teams or the Lakeville North super team a few weeks, they are so good at taking are of the little things that limit the other team to near-nothing offensively, and the level of offensive balance is about as good as it gets for a high school team. Also, if I could choose one thing to build a hypothetical HS team around, it would be a D pair like Luedtke and Docter. In this wide-open Mr. Hockey race, I may be ready to climb on the Luedtke train...he's the best player on the best team, and the ability of that pair to control games is second to none.

The injury to Paine in the early going was a killer for East. Obviously one player isn't going to turn around a 3-goal deficit, and Tonka had their own major injury to contend with when Bayless went down. Still, Paine is probably the most integral player to the East team, as he's their only real offensive defenseman and logs a ton of ice time; their normally decent-looking power play (in which Paine is the lone D atop the umbrella) was in shambles without him. Hopefully it's not too serious. East was already down another D due to a misconduct in the Stillwater game, and for a team whose defensive depth was not a strength to begin with, you could see things snowballing from there.

Other than that, East stuck around for a period and a half, and Donovan had one clean breakaway and another half-break in the middle of the 2nd that he didn't put away. (That was giving me flashbacks to a Saturday night last March.) If he finishes either of those, we may be talking about a different game, but we aren't. Tonka is the deserved frontrunner.

Stayed in West Metro tonight at SLP to watch battle of privates , as BSM beat HM 1-0 in overtime battle .

The best freshman in state Nick Pierre
and one of the next best Adam Marshall both logged heavy ice time with top skill on display

Revised Scoring - Adam Marshall with the goal, assisted by Sophomore Callahan

Both teams looked exhausted by end of game

Good goaltending battle. Sogs 25-20 Knights

In other news Blake beat EP tonight 4-3 in a hard fought game.

Broz and Miller are fun to watch and special Soph's...Miller had a highlight reel dangle-n-snipe in the 3rd to make it 4-2.

Only 1 point tonight for Jensen + 2 Mittelstadt's.

EP has their gauntlet starting next Sat with DEast, Tonka, Wayzata, and Edina.

Blake is 1/3 thru theirs with Andover Tuesday and Edina Saturday (+ conference opponent Minnehaha Thursday).

What did you think of the final penalty on Hill? I was watching the game feed online and Hill did a good job killing the penalty to start OT and then what I saw on the feed was an upper body check where a kid went down and the arm went up to call a trip on Hill immediately after they killed a penalty. Tough way to end a hard fought game, trying to kill 4 minutes of penalties in OT (first penaltt came with 5.5 seconds left. Both goalies played great, it was just a bitter end to see it come down to one team getting 4 minutes of pp opportunity in OT and the other team fighting to stay alive.

I thought the call on Nick Mountain at the end of regulation was a decent probably unavoidable call. I thought the 2nd one in OT was more questionable especially considering the situation. Both teams were worn out, lots of messy contact going on late in third and during the OT.
