Holy Family 2, Mound Westonka 0 after 1.
Shots 10-6 in favor of HF.
Mound on PP, about 1:40 left.

Update: 5-0 HF start of 3rd.
Wheels came off for Mound after goal was waived off (bad call) that would’ve made it 2-1. I’m checking out of this one.

0-0 after one in EP-Tonka tilt. Good breakaway chance for Skippers but that’s about it. Some sloppy play by Tonka’s d core but their smart and conservative system prevented it from resulting in much for EP. Jensen didn’t do much but Rudrud and Lengefels for EP looked good.

SPA 2, Breck 2 after 1
Shots 13-7 SPA
SPA goals came about about five seconds apart. Breck generally looked like a tire fire but caught Spartan D napping twice for nice goals.

Update: 3-2 Breck after 2
Shots 19-13 SPA
SPA on a 5 on 3 PP to start third.

4-3 Breck final
Didn’t catch shots but around 30-18 SPA
SPA is very much improved from last year. I’m curious about the roster turnover, will have to compare to last season.

Update: didn’t realize until now that Miller for Minnetonka is out, resulting in a shake up of D pairings and splitting up Docter and Luedtke. That could explain the sloppiness.

0-0 still after 2 with EP-Tonka. Man, I haven’t been this unimpressed with Minnetonka in the last year and a half (I missed their game with Duluth Marshall though). Credit to EP for a strong forecheck and their D with good gap control not allowing Tonka’s forwards any time or space in neutral zone. Skipper D still looking sloppy with puck and forwards are holding onto puck for too long or just completely missing guys. They just may have been looking ahead to Saturday.

Seems like Docter has been out there for more than 30 minutes so far.

Miller was scratched for unspecified reasons. Crull was paired with Docter on the top D unit, I think, and Luedtke was paired with untested D Jack Anderson on the second unit. Also F Mason Hendrickson moved up to the second line. Big difference when Docter and Luedtke are not paired, as they work well together to ignite the Tonka offense from the blue line. Nothing is really clicking for the Tonka offense.

Agreed JD. I guess I’m all for giving a new guy a chance especially when you have the depth of Minnetonka, but I don’t see why not just go with 5 D and try and keep Docter Luedtke paired as much as possible. Running 5 or sometimes 4 D is quite common in AA hs hockey.

4-0 Tonka over EP. Just looking at the box score that’s as classic a Minnetonka game as you’ll see. Teams stay with them through 2 and a half periods and then a quick couple goals and an empty netter later it looks like a blowout. However I thought this was still an uncharacteristicly sloppy game for Skippers, even in the 3rd when they dominated on the scoreboard. On one hand it seems like there’s some weaknesses there (yes they were missing a top 4 D), but on the other hand they played as bad as they did and still beat a good EP team 4-0...

EP zero goals is stat that matters as can't get beat by team that doesn't score.

Glock had a great game in goal for Tonka. Doc had a hat trick in the third period. Newhouse is an impressive soph on the top line who also scored.

EP was skating stride-for-stride with Tonka. EP had a hard time putting the puck on the net in the first period, but played a better second period, and they had some good scoring opportunities. Tonka got going late third period.
Closer game than what the score indicated. Rudrud impressed me in the first period for EP and Glockner was on the whole game for Tonka.

Good to see Carson Jones back from injury (he may have been back sooner, but haven’t seen EP play much since start of the calendar year). One of the top scorers from last year.

Excellent reporting on the Tonka EP game above

I will just add that Miller was out ill , causing the Doctor Luedtke breakup described above , which did result in the uncharacteristic periodic Tonka chaos

Momentum in third turned to Tonka when Glocks made 3 unbelievable saves within about 15 seconds , and also a pipe by EP. After that , it was all Tonka

A very nice scene after the handshake line when about a half dozen Tonka and Ep players kneeled in a bunch together in the far corner , whether it was an extra show of good sportsmanship or also a prayer ,or both , I don’t know . Well done boys !

All in all, another great Lake conference experience .

Tonka bus leaves for Bemidji 7.30 Friday I’m told

I was mistaken that Luedtke was paired with the new guy Anderson. Dylan Zitzloff was paired with Luedtke on the second D unit. I think Anderson replaced Miller on the roster (as opposed to the second D unit). Not sure if he played. Also F Nic Henry moved up to the second line in this game, with Hendrickson and Lagerback. By the way, Docter and Luedtke were paired together intermittently in all three periods, including all three of Docter's goals in the third period. I'm sure when it counts most, Tonka will play them together to the hilt.
