Summer Leagues/Tournaments

A couple summers ago when I was at the MAC in St Cloud, there was some summer hockey tournament going on. Also, I believe Duluth Marshall has a tournament up there as well.
Can anyone tell me any info about these summer leagues/tournaments? I assume its just for players with eligibility left? Is there any organization/structure at all? Or just a chance for players to get some game time during the summer? Thanks
