What new Co-Op would be instantly relevant?

The new Virginia-Eveleth Co-op has me curious what you all think? What new co-ops would be instantly relevant at the AA level? In my area, the girls Brainerd-LF co-op has been successful. Would a B-LF co-op at the boys level be similarly as successful? Would it make Brainerd more of a threat in 8AA? What might be some others?

Th B-LF girls Co-op has looked good for the first 10 years or so, but I believe there will be far less Little Falls girls in the program going forward. When the youth programs combined 10? years ago, both groups of girls at the U8/U10 were solid and combined were awesome. However, I thought I heard that the Little Falls Girls numbers after that group really dwindled down. Why would you start your kid in hockey if you had to drive 30 minutes each way for practice. Diehards would, but not your average family.

I think a Boys Co-op would be really strong only if the youth associations kept separate and then combined at high school only. I won't dig in any further as I think Co-ops are Cop-outs. Yuck!

Good points zooomx. On the other hand, if it showed immediately success, parent's might enthusiastically commit and the program might build even more.

How about all the Duluth Schools combine their HS puck.
Duluth East/Denfeld/Marshall/Hermantown would be really talented too.

This is actually an interesting question based on the implication that co-ops are intended to create competitiveness rather than maintain viability. I imagine there's a philosophical split there.

My school district has two high schools that have both struggled with numbers in the recent past. The district asked the MSHSL about the possibility of co-oping and they responded that, as long as each high school has the bare minimum necessary to put a team on the ice, there's no way they'd entertain approval of a co-op. The MSHSL favors creating opportunities for participation WAY more than opportunities for competitiveness.

From my selfish perspective, I agree with the MSHSL, as I have kids that will be borderline varsity at their future high school but wouldn't even make JV at a large number of other high schools. If our districts' high schools ever combined, they definitely wouldn't even make JV.

However, based on the assumption that MSHSL would even entertain approving the co-op, you'd be looking for two nearby programs with some top end talent and absolutely no depth. For obvious reasons, you're way more likely to see a competitive co-op on the girls side.
