Last Saturday saw the rare match-up of two defending champions opening the season against each other. This Saturday we see the rare match-up of a pair of four time champions, both with titles in both the single class & two class eras.

Totino-Grace has serious COVID issues. They have yet to play a game and no timetable for return.

Maple Grove and Dodge County must have acted fast to put together that game, because I don’t recall seeing it even a few days ago.

That's too bad, they would have a solid squad this year too.

HM and GR scoreless through 1. Pretty up and down, but both teams playing excellent defense. Hill had one breakaway, but other then that, neither team had much for real scoring chances.

Listened on the radio, Grand Rapids radio actually. Sounded like a very even game - probably as expected a lot of defense with just a few chances for either team on offense. BTW, I really liked listening to the guys on J105 GR radio. They did a very nice job calling the game.

Good win for Rapids. Teams look like they could play a 5 OT thriller again later this year. Not a ton of offense on either side, but good defensive game. Hill missed several open nets.

I missed the video for the last 5 minutes, and the audio for the last 2 minutes. I should get a refund of about 75 cents, plus tax.

But it was a very even game.

As did I. They did finally reboot the system with under a minute left, but still. Then again, we didn't miss a thing.

Lakeville South up 5-0 on Lakeville North with 6 left in the second period

I announced St. Thomas 4-0 over Hastings in a game that was much, much closer than the score indicates. Hastings is a tough matchup. Senior-laden, they play a trap and had no trouble clamping down on Hallum & Wright. Great goaltender, who was fun to watch as he wandered from the crease to play the puck. At one point he fanned on a diving clear and slid into the neutral zone like Frosty the Snowman in the Christmas special. Sophomore Tommy Cronin with a hat trick. The other St. Thomas goal was an impressive 200 foot individual play for sure, but it should never have happened. Clear as day the puck sailed into the netting. Everyone in the building saw it, save the three with whistles. Hallum tore up ice and tucked a beauty up under the bar.

Tonight I watched Edina take out preseason darling Eden Prairie. 3-1. Clarkowski was very good for Edina in his Hornet debut. A late PP tally from Langenbrunner made it a one-goal game with around 5 min left. Story of the game is smothering play by Edina's forwards and lockdown D that combined to keep scoring chances to a minimum.

Great to see HS hockey in full swing again.

Hastings is a good squad, no question. They do need to actually beat a good team now. They are beyond moral victories.

We were at Bsm at Blake . Rematch of the February Mariucci final . Did not disappoint .Close thru mid third, both fast and physical. Bsm Freshman Risteaus snipe right after Blake pulled within one swung the momentum back , and RK went on from there . 5-2 incl eng
