Good point GR, I would have expected to see Grand Rapids on that list before them.

white bear plays those teams 12 times during the season, excluding the Schwans Cup. The schwans leaves a chance to play three more teams in the top 20. Any other team plays as many games against the top 20 as wbl?
The curse lives on.....

I'm glad GR isn't on there. They have a lot of unproven players and I'd rather see them be hungry. They play Forest Lake, CEC, and Apple Valley at home their first 3 games, so they have a great oppurtunity to do something right out of the gate. Most important is that they play well, and gain confidence early in the year for such a young team. Last year expectations were very high in Grand Rapids early on and we know what happened.

im suprised with rosemount since they did only win about 3-4 games in the lake last year. not to mention losing their starting goaltender Matt Beggs along with a brand new coach.

Why is Wayzata ranked 5th when they lost so many players?

MNhockey89,

I'm wondering the same thing about Wayzata. We'll just have to wait for the season to begin to see how they do. They'll be a team that can't be taken lightly, that's for sure.

Pre-season Ratings
Posted: Thu Nov 10, 2005 4:51 pm
by hattrick91
Not much substance with the pre-season ratings- bases the ratings on the total number of seniors that have graduated from programs. The ratings do not include the talent of players moving up from JV and does not include transfers or mergers. Programs that were heavy with seniors last year systematically appear lower in the ratings with the assumption that the JV players moving into those slots are not as capable- could be that those programs just have the numbers to keep capable juniors on down off the varsity. A start...but that's about it...

Hill?

I see that Hill-Murray is ranked at 4th. I know we've heard this alot but, is this the year for Hill. Maybe hillfan can answer this question.

Here's a scoop on Hill:

-Lost only 4 seniors that played regularly, and only one key player (D/F Mike Phillippi)

-They actually return some goaltending with experience this year, Joe Phillippi. Joe Dawson (who struggled last year) has gone to Michigan for Midgets. That leaves a spot open for either senior Mike Scott, or junior Danny McEnaney.

-They return 4 starting defenseman: Captain Derek McCallum, Captain Billy Leier, Mac Garceau, Gabe Guentzel. Most likely coming up are junior Tony Danna, and freshman Nick Pryor (very talented for his age).

-The offense should be strong, one big reason(besides the defense) why they are ranked high. They return 7 forwards from last years squad including all of the top scorers:
Junior Mike Hoeffel
Senior Brian Arrigoni
Senior Bryant Skarda
Senior Captain Joey McEnaney
Junior Nick Larson

-Lastly, two very talented forwards from last years JV (one junior, one sophomore) should be brought up.

The outlook is good for Hill. On paper, it looks as if they should do very well. I wish the best of luck to the Pioneers this season!
