Rapids leads East 2-1 after 1.
East scored first and probably had the better of the play for the first 10 minutes. Last 7 were all Rapids, including a waved off goal.

Grand Rapids just got another gift from East in the form of a major penalty. go get 'em T-Hawks!
Now another penalty on East & one on GR.
Didn't take GR long to capitalize. Now 5-1 & major continues.

Final Grand Rapids 6-1 over East. They'll play Blaine at Amsoil Sat. Blaine 6-4 over Coon Rapids.

East came out hard and had Rapids on the ropes. Then they got chippy and it got away from them. Rapids has not been sharp these last two games. First line is really struggling. Hopefully they can right the ship Saturday.

Totally, I thought for the first 5 minutes and East going up 1-0, they were dominating. Then, the wheels completely feel off. Man, that East goalie sure does chirp a lot out there. Curious to see what happens in the off season.

Hibbing pulls biggest upset if you want to call it that. Hutch & Greenway win as lower seeds in 8 vs 9 and 4 vs 5.
Otherwise all Chalk in Class A
Most entertaining game SCC Mora as Crusaders took commanding 3-0 lead in 2nd only to see Mora-Milaca's Mitchell the states leading scorer put a together a natural hat trick to tie the score at 3-3 and 9th grader Hirschfeld scores GW with about 40 seconds left after missing the last 14 games due to injury.
Alexandria score is ugly ugly ugly but that happens in Section of only 8 teams with a huge gap in talent level.

Maple Grove has handed out a few beat downs over the years, but the one I remember most is the 15-1 win over Blaine in a 2012 section final:

#9 Irondale 3-2 over #8 Osseo in 5AA. Not really an upset by QRF rankings, but shots were about 35-15 in favor of Osseo. Irondale goalie stood on his head.

The boarding major and open ice knee major both looked legit to me. So was the slashing penalty that gave Rapids a 2 man advantage. East came hot out of the gate, probably their only chance to try to get up a couple and get Rapids to clench their sticks. It was exciting but I wasn't concerned. Rapids was rolling the 2nd and 3rd. I have never liked East, obviously, but they've always been a respected unit, not so much right now though. Glad their cheap shots didn't turn into anything more. This new coach does not have a handle on this team and appears in over his head.

No real winners in a game like this. Alexandria was between a rock and a hard place as you want your guys somewhat sharp going into the semifinal, but yet you don't want to be perceived as of running the score up. Years past, the section had 10 teams and B/W almost always was in the play in game. This year, they got the Cardinals.

I’d be surprised to see him back for a second season.
