My predictions:

Warroad vs Roseau - is there any doubt about this one?
Moorhead or Grand Rapids vs TRF

Figure Warroad vs Roseau for both the girls and boys teams games?

Second boys game- agree on TRF', but how about Hibbing or Rockridge for the opponent?

Girls:
Warroad vs Orono (now that Larry Olimb is the coach)

Boys:
Warroad vs Roseau
Moorhead vs Minnetonka

I don’t see Tonka trekking another 3+ hours past Moorhead in 2024 to play Moorhead in Warroad.

They had their northern Hockey Day MN experience in 2019 vs Andover in Burrrmidji

TRF vs a metro team would be better than Hibbing or Rock Ridge (Eveleth-Gilbert has been on HDM twice). Or even TRF vs EGF.

Let’s save Moorhead for a later date. They’ve been on HDM twice and besides, check out the names on their bantam and peewee rosters….hint hint hint

It might have been nothing more than availability and a willingness by potential opponents to want to participate. I can't imagine they did it to generate more eyeballs since the ratings would be minuscule regardless.

Olimb and Marvin being childhood friends had a ton to do with the game being scheduled for Hockeyday and after the Orono Parental issue I think the game was axed due to the storyline being no longer there and Marvin honoring his friend and not giving those who were part of the ousting the exposure hockeyday brings. With Larry gone there was no way Marvin for gonna give that kind of a carrot to them would be my guess.

I was responding to the question of why LVN was chosen as the replacement. I know why Orono was dropped.

Send La Crescent! Can you have two class A schools further apart? Literally you can get to Chicago, St. Louis, and Kansas City quicker from La Crescent than Warroad.

HDM 25 announced at Valle Fair in Shakopee.

Let that traditional rivalry of HM v Shakopee shine through. j/k

Chaska v Shakopee would be a matchup of upcoming teams.

And people wonder why Edina doesn't play in this stupid game. I mean it's fine for programs that struggle to get to the section semis, but some programs keep their eyes on the prize.

I wish there was a way to post the “beat the dead horse emoji”. Hockey day has now outlived its usefulness.
