Section 1A Championship Game (3/1/23)
#1 seed Northfield (22-5-0) vs #2 seed New Prague (16-10-1)

Northfield enterd the playoffs as the favorite in 1A and has been since the beginning of season has gone unbeaten in the section, including a shutout wins over New Prague. Shutouts have been common as Sr. Goaltender Keaton Warlock has been outstanding in the nets. Defensively they are led by Sr. Mike Fossum & Jr. Ty Frank who both have close to 30 points on the year from the back end. Up front they have depth and speed and led by Jr.'s Cayden Monson, Jake Geiger & Kamden Kaiser have been outstanding in the playoffs so far.

The defending Section 1A Champion New Prague proved again that playing a tough AA filled schedule all winter has its benefits as they find themselves back in the 1A Final. Finding a goaltender has been a question mark as the Trojans have rotated starters but Sophomore Cole Murphy has been the guy in playoffs. They have good scoring punch up front as Sr. John Schmidt leads the way and they have a nice core of Jr.’s Will Seymour, Braeden Woitas, Michael Beckius & Eric Berg who all have double digit goals and are over 20 points on the season to present a lineup with good depth.

Northfield won the 1st meeting during the regular season over New Prauge 3-0 on the Trojans home ice.

Who wins this time around and heads to St Paul representing Section 1A?

Nice crowd, maybe 1800. It would have been better had the Northfield band showed up, New Prague’s did and put on a good show.

The better team won, no question but New Prague had some bad luck, the 3rd goal was pretty clearly offsides and the 4th came on a ticky tack penalty call. You still aren’t going to win a game in which you don’t score…..

Northfield should get seeded at state which may be a first for 1A. Good luck to the Raiders, represent us well!

Northfield is also pretty darn young, they return a lot. If they stay in 1A their future is really bright, given what South, North, and Mayo lose to graduation, I would make Northfield the favorites next year in either 1A or 1AA.

Yes, 2011 they were a 3 seed got upset by unseeded Hibbing 4-0 in QF
