I created a metric based on state tourney results through 2023 to determine the top schools in class AA since 2000. 4 points awarded to the champion, 3 points to the runner-up, 2 points for advancing as far as the semi-final, and 1 point for qualifying for the tournament. Here are the top 5 teams:

1. Edina 34 pts
2. Hill-Murray 31 pts
3. Eden Prairie 30 pts
4. Moorhead 26 pts
5. Duluth East 24 pts

Looks about right. Over those 24 years, these 5 schools are the leaders in state championship game appearances. Edina is 5-2, EP is 3-3, HM is 2-3, Moorhead is 0-5 and Duluth East is 0-4, including that heartbreaker in 2011.
