They, or refs, or someone blew it.

Gophers choked big time, but the refs were pushing the food down their throat once it was already in there.

After the Championship loss a few years ago, where they went into a prevent D, I’m kind of numb to Gopher hockey. Again, they went into cruise control in the third while up two goals. Two terrible non-calls directly led to Mass goals. But the Gophers should’ve played more intensely and never put themselves in that position.

I will never understand the naive idea that "the refs shouldn't decide it".
We want games to be won by the team that exhibits the best hockey skills. Tripping, roughing, holding, & hooking, are not hockey skills. When refs overlook penalties, they ARE deciding the game, full stop. There are marginal calls, I get that. But there are also clear penalties.
Also, once a game is say five minutes into overtime, it's ridiculous to not call any penalties.
Sure, don't give up three goals in the third period. But a penalty is a penalty.

The latest in what is becoming a trend: the Gophers underachieving at the end of the season. Was there some shaky officiating? Sure, but that's part of hockey. The fact of the matter is that the Gophers controlled the game for two periods hten, as noted above, they went into a shell in the third period. this is after losing two out of three on their home ice to the last place team in the Big Ten

The Golden Rats wanted to hire a coach who could win a national championship. So they went out and hired the guy who couldn't win one at SCSU.
And it's another great showing by the B1GMistake. How many years has it gone without winning a national title? Apparently we did a big favor to Denver, UMD, and the Susies by abandoning them so the B1GMistake Network could have some programming.

To answer your question, the Big Ten has never won an NCAA Hockey Championship since the conference was formed in 2013.
Also, there have been four cases of a 16 seed beating a 1. Two of those were St. Cloud State, under Motzko, losing in back to back years.

Seemed odd the goalie wasn’t given the time to fix broken skate lace. The goal they gave up 5 seconds later was pretty big. Although I must admit it was a nice tip in that I couldn’t fault Airey.

Just what does "fixing a skate lace" entail? If it means a complete replacement, that's something that takes more than a minute or two. It may take several minutes to locate the proper length lace & get it to the bench area. The leg pad needs to be removed, the skate unlaced, etc. Five minutes would be pretty quick, I'd think. It's really a grey area, and there are situations where a hard and fast rule can't apply to all situations.
Given that this was not a case of the goalie not preparing properly, I would say that not allowing the sub to get some shots on him for even 60 seconds is questionable. But at the end of the day, it's just more proof that officials in all sports at all levels conspire against Minnesota teams. As Bob Dole said, "You know, I know it, and the American people know it."*
*There is no proof that Bob Dole said, "Bob Dole doesn't talk about himself in the third person."

Anyone blaming the refs need to look at how that third period went for the Gophers. The team went into turtle mode yet again. Game had no business going to OT. Motzko needs to go.

Two things can be true at the same time.
