It has been a busy first two weeks of the season, with a few 7A teams setting themselves apart and a lot of mystery beyond that in a much deeper Class A field this winter. Below are the rankings week #2:

1. Hibbing/Chisholm (3-0-0)
Past Week Results: W 5-2 #13 Cloquet/Esko/Carlton, W 6-2 #19 St Cloud Cathedral
Upcoming Schedule: 12/2 @ Duluth Denfeld, 12/4 vs Proctor, 12/6 vs Shakopee
The Bluejackets left few doubts that they are the team in Class A going on the road again this week and taking down ranked CEC and SCC, as they were able to pull away in both efforts. They begin this week playing their first two non-ranked teams, which shouldn’t be anything but wins; but the game vs Shakopee to end the week will be another great test for this talented team early in the year.

2. Hermantown (1-0-1)
Past Week Results: W 6-3 CDH, T 2-2 OT Hill Murray
Upcoming Schedule: 12/2 @ Rock Ridge, 12/5 @ #7 Mahtomedi
The Hawks had a strong opening statement as they went on the road and took out a good AA CDH team, and then followed that up by tying a rested, strong Hill Murray group. It is still very early, but this looked much more like the Hermantown teams we are accustomed to, as they showed balanced scoring and were very solid in their own end. Now this week, they head to Rock Ridge looking for revenge after last year, before heading to Mahtomedi for the first of two meetings between the Class A Powers.

3. Sartell (2-0-0)
Past Week Results: W 5-0 St Cloud Public
Upcoming Schedule: 12/2 @ Gentry Academy, 12/4 vs Brainerd, 12/5 @ #22 Sauk Rapids-Rice
The Sabres polished off CLC rival St Cloud Public with little trouble, as the strong early start to the season continued this past week. Now moving into this week, they start by hitting the road with a good early-season test at Gentry Academy. They then finish with two CLC games, with the one at Sauk Rapids-Rice having some potential intrigue.

4. Delano (2-1-0)
Past Week Results: L 3-6 Buffalo
Upcoming Schedule: 12/4 @ Providence Academy, 12/6 vs Southwest Christian/Richfield
Delano is a bit of a paradox right now. They had some great wins like last weekend going into 8A country for the northern sweep, but they followed that up by getting taken out by AA Buffalo. The Tigers always seem to play with fire as they play sound enough structure to be able to beat anyone in the top of Class A but they also don’t separate much from teams which causes them to always be a potential upset victim. They will look to get back on track this week with two important Section 2A games vs Providence Academy and Southwest Christian/Richfield.

5. Warroad (2-2-0)
Past Week Results: L 3-5 Moorhead, W 3-1 Bemidji
Upcoming Schedule: 12/2 vs #6 East Grand Forks, 12/5 vs Rock Ridge, 12/6 vs Grand Rapids
The Warriors had a solid weekend as they were able to push Mighty Moorhead and then get up the next day after effort and hit the road and find a way to beat a decent Bemidji crew. Both games are steps in the right direction for this young and growing Warroad team. This week, things won't get any easier as they have the first matchup with 8A rival East Grand Forks before finishing the weekend with 7AA favorite Rock Ridge and Grand Rapids coming to town.

6. East Grand Forks (2-1-0)
Past Week Results: W 5-2 Grand Forks Red River, W 3-2 Grand Forks Central
Upcoming Schedule: 12/2 @ #5 Warroad, 12/4 vs #13 Cloquet/Esko/Carlton
The Greenwave had a big week as they were able to sweep their border rivals, Grand Forks Red River and Grand Forks Central, to take an early lead in the Gambucci Cup standings. Now they have the first of what most likely will be three matchups with their 8A rivals, Warroad, before hosting a ranked Cloquet/Esko/Carlton team to end what will be a challenging set of games.

7. Mahtomedi (1-1-0)
Past Week Results: W 6-3 Centennial, L 2-3 OT Blaine
Upcoming Schedule: 12/3 vs Hill Murray, 12/5 vs #2 Hermantown
The Zephyrs did nothing to hurt their standing in the opening week as they went .500 vs two 5AA clubs, beating Centennial before falling to Blaine in overtime. Overall, while it's only two games, this looks like the Mahtomedi we are more accustomed to seeing, as they are stronger and deeper than last season. The murderous schedule, though, is the same as this week, as they have a match-up with Hill Murray before welcoming in Hermantown to close out a tough pair of games.

8. Blake (3-1-0)
Past Week Results: W 6-3 Waconia, W 5-4 OT #10 Breck
Upcoming Schedule: 12/2 vs Totino-Grace, 12/5 @ Westonka
The Bears did well within their section this week as they took down Waconia and used overtime to get by rival Breck, to maintain their position in the Top 10. This week, they will get a good test from AA Totino Grace. However, the important one will be vs Wetonka this week, which is another Section 2A game. If they win that one, they’ll have really set themselves up nicely early in the year in the top half of their very deep and tough West Metro section standings.

9. Northfield (2-0-0)
Past Week Results: W 3-2 OT #11 Monticello
Upcoming Schedule: 12/3 vs #13 Orono, 12/4 @ Winona
Northfield picked up one of the best wins of the week as they were able to topple a good Monticello team in overtime. The win shows the Raiders are still a very serious threat out of Southern Minnesota and could be a potential feather in their cap come State Seeding time if they return to the Tourney. This week they welcome in Orono for a State Tournament rematch and follow that up with a trip to 1A Winona.

10. Breck (3-1-0)
Past Week Results: W 3-0 #19 St Cloud Cathedral, L 4-5 OT #8 Blake
Upcoming Schedule: 12/4 vs Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato
Breck ended the week with a tough loss in overtime to rival Blake in an excellent hockey game. The Mustangs, though, still have a lot of good wins early in the year, including a nice shutout over Cathedral to begin the week, to give this program lots of optimism that they are indeed fully back into contender status. Giving them the bump into the Top 10 this week and looking ahead, there is just one game on docket that they should win as they host Litchfield/Dassel-Cokato.

11. Monticello (0-1-1)
Past Week Results: L 2-3 OT #9 Northfield, T 5-5 OT #22 Sauk Rapids-Rice
Upcoming Schedule: 12/2 @ Pine City Area, 12/4 vs #15 Chisago Lakes
The Moose had a tough opening week, as there is no shame in losing in overtime at Northfield, but the bigger bombshell was when they blew a three-goal lead twice to 5A Sauk Rapids to have to settle for a tie at home. It is very early, but this has always been a program built on defense, and while the shaky play in their own end can be written off as early-season hockey, it is something worth watching. Looking at the week ahead, they hope to get on track with a 5A game vs a pesky Pine City Area team, followed by a matchup with a rising Chisago Lakes crew.

12. St. Louis Park (2-2-0)
Past Week Results: L 5-7 Totino Grace, W 4-3 OT Woodbury, L 4-7 Champlin Park
Upcoming Schedule: 12/4 vs Edina
The Orioles had their ups and downs as they continue to play their mainly AA slate. The good news is that St Louis Park can score and has the talent to contend with the best in Class A. The bad news is that the defense right now is giving up far too many goals early in the year. This week is basically a wash as they play traditional AA power Edina in their only game, but this team will have to work to continue to clean things up in their own end if they want to make a run in a very deep Section 2A.

13. Cloquet/Esko/Carlton (1-2-0)
Past Week Results: L 2-5 #1 Hibbing/Chisholm, W 12-1 Princeton
Upcoming Schedule: 12/2 @ #20 Minneapolis, 12/5 @ Bemidji, 12/6, @ #6 East Grand Forks
The Lumberjacks restored some belief this week, as the Jefferson loss doesn't look as bad a week later, and they had a good week as they played top-ranked Hibbing tough and then took down Princeton with ease. They’ve got a fascinating road trip on their plate this week, with a trip all the way down to ranked Minneapolis to begin the week, then they will make the trek across the state, stopping in to play AA Bemidji before a big game at ranked East Grand Forks to end the week.

14. Orono (0-1-1)
Past Week Results: T 5-5 OT #15 Chisago Lakes
Upcoming Schedule: 12/3 @ #9 Northfield, 12/5 vs #24 Little Falls
The Spartans again ran out of gas late this week as they let a good Chisago Lakes team off the mat and nearly lost the game altogether. To their credit, they were able to tie it up late and settle for the stalemate. Orono has talent and has shown early in games how explosive they can be, but now they need to start to finish those efforts. Another week of practice can only help, and they have two good matchups this week to solidify themselves in these rankings as they take on ranked Northfield and Little Falls, giving them opportunities to move up.

15. Chisago Lakes (3-0-1)
Past Week Results: W 7-3 Northern Edge, W 5-2 Hudson (Wis), T 5-5 OT #14 Orono
Upcoming Schedule: 12/2 vs Cambridge-Isanti, 12/4 @ #11 Monticello
The Wildcats continued their good start to the season this week as the win over Wisconsin power Hudson felt like a good win, and the comeback tie vs Orono to follow that was vindication for an early-season bump into the Top 15 this week. Chisago Lakes has plenty of scoring, keeping it out of the net will be key now that they have two Mississippi 8 Conference games on tap, with the trip to Monticello ending the week being the bigger test of the two.

16. Luverne (3-0-0)
Past Week Results: W 18-3 Worthington
Upcoming Schedule: 12/2 @ Redwood Valley, 12/4 vs Marshall
Roll Cards Roll flattened a Section 3A and Conference opponent this week, which is par for the course when it comes to life in the Big South Conference. Things should not change much this coming week, as they have two more 3A and Conference opponents on the docket. Though the game vs Marshall is always interesting, being one of their bigger rivals down south.

17. Waseca (1-1-0)
Past Week Results: W 6-5 OT New Ulm, L 1-6 New Prague
Upcoming Schedule: 12/2 vs Westonka, 12/6 vs Marshall
Waseca had a rough opening act this week to their highly anticipated season. They started the week by blowing a three goal third period lead and needing overtime to down New Ulm. Then they were dismantled in their home ice by New Prague which set off some alarm bells. It’s early yet and they did appear in the Prep Bowl which may have caused for some uneven practices early in the year. Wont overreact too much yet but they have a scary match up vs Westonka this week a game they need to win to stay in the Top 20.

18. Rochester Lourdes (2-1-0)
Past Week Results: W 3-0 Austin
Upcoming Schedule: 12/2 @ St Paul, 12/6 @ Providence Academy
Lourdes continued their early-season road odyssey as they took care of business this past week, earning a shutout at Austin. Looking ahead to this week, bet you would have never guessed, but it's more road games for the Eagles. The game at Providence Academy is the one that has to be circled as both teams are looking for that first big win of the season.

19. St Cloud Cathedral (1-3-0)
Past Week Results: L 0-3 #10 Breck, L 2-6 #1 Hibbing/Chisholm
Upcoming Schedule: 12/2 @ Alexandria
The Crusaders are going through some expected growing pains early in the year. Cathedral graduated the majority of their core that nearly won back to back titles and they are currently breaking in a bunch of new players in new roles. They took it on the chin at home this week dropping two contests to ranked Breck and Hibbing. Talent is on this roster but it's going to take some time. They will hope for a better result vs Alexandria this week.

20. Minneapolis (3-0-0)
Past Week Results: W 4-0 Fergus Falls, W 2-1 Hutchinson
Upcoming Schedule: 12/2 vs #13 Cloquet/Esko/Carlton , 12/4 @ Holy Angels, 12/6 vs Duluth Marshall
The 612 crew rejoined the Top 20 this week as they have taken care of business so far this season and deserve some credit, as they have been a top-notch Class A program for the last 5 to 6 years. However, the tight rope win over a rebuilding Hutchinson does raise some eyebrows about how good this version of Minneapolis really is. Will slot them here for now and see how they do this week when the competition picks up tremendously as they take on a ranked CEC team and then have two rising AA private schools.

Next Five Notable Teams
Northern Lakes (1-2-1)

The Lightning had their early season rough patch continue this week as they lost two road games to AA Duluth Marshall and Totino Grace. The game vs the Hilltoppers was one that they let get away, but they did have a good effort vs Totino Grace to end the week. This is a team with talent that just needs to find their groove as they can be a contender. This week they have more non-Class A games vs Superior (Wis) and Alexandria.

Sauk Rapids-Rice (0-0-1)
The Storm had one of the better results of the week for teams in this portion of the rankings as they twice dug out of a three goal deficit s in third period to get a very important comeback tie vs 5A Monticello. This week is a busy one as they hit the road to take on Brainerd and Detroit Lakes in CLC action before returning home to take on highly ranked rival Sartell. That should give us a better idea on this team.

Detroit Lakes (0-2-0)
The Lakers were one of many teams that had their only action of the week get knocked out due to weather as their matchup with East Grand Forks was postponed. Detroit Lakes will hope the week off allows them to regroup as they have a big week of games first hosting the team just ahead of them in Sauk Rapids-Rice before finishing the week with 8A Thief River Falls.

Little Falls (0-1-0)
The Flyers had their only game of the week knocked out due to weather vs Morris/Benson. Now this week they get back into the action with two good contests taking on a pesky River Lakes team at home before hitting the road to take on a ranked Orono team to end the week.

Mankato West (1-0-0)
The Scarlets were idle this week as their game vs East Ridge got snowed out. Now this week Mankato West will be busy as they head to Albert Lea for a Big Nine Conference game before taking on two AA teams in Jefferson and Tofino Grace to end the week.

Some Notes from (12/2/25) in Class A
- #1 Hibbing & #2 Hermantown appear to be the head of the class in A and the best two teams in Section 7 regardless of class this year

- #3 Sartell & #8 Blake both had nice wins over some good AA Privates

-#5 Warroad held serve on home ice vs #6 EGF, going to be fun to see these teams develop

Surprise of the Night
#15 Chisago Lakes falls to Cambridge-Isanti.... I am at a loss on that one... my word

Team to Watch
Bagley/Fosston is off to a (3-0-0) start playing the long game, but they should win 17 plus games this year, and they will return everything next year. Will the Flyers win 8A? No, but they could have a big year, which is fun for a very small program.
