Tonka Rosemount

Great start for Rosemount. I thought there was a possible hand pass at the net on that goal. Probably not, it wasn’t mentioned. Anyone else notice that?

It didn't matter, because the Tonka goalie touched the puck. That was my recollection. Tonka touches, it goes back to the crease and then kid from Rosemount scores.grindiangrad-80 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 06, 2026 6:27 pm Great start for Rosemount. Since they said during the broadcast the Rosemount theme was something like "Home Grown", I imagine most of them were local. Its a Lake Conference tradition to look across the country to see how can help the team next year.SpreadOut! wrote: ↑Fri Mar 06, 2026 7:15 pm Curious: How many Tonka players did NOT play youth hockey for Tonka? Same question for Rosemount, to be fair.
Lake Conference tradition for Eden Prairie—Lee Smith was the OG recruiter—and Tonka (Goldsworthy took what Smith started and went hog wild with it). I don’t know that Edina and Wayzata have done this as much, but I could be wrong. This hasn’t infected Maple Grove, new to the Lake this year, yet.Sparlimb wrote: ↑Fri Mar 06, 2026 7:16 pmSince they said during the broadcast the Rosemount theme was something like "Home Grown", I imagine most of them were local. My memory of Tier II was that Rosemount was something like 1-17 going into sections and made the state final. It was an abomination. I cheered Greenway hard that night and they won great.raidergrad72 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 06, 2026 8:02 pm As a Greenway grad, it was fun to watch the references and screenshot of the bracket to the 1992 tournament. At that time, I happened to be living in an area called Valley Park, which is a sort of subdivision of Rosemount and went to the championship game at Target Center. Rosemount got hot at just the right time but didn't have quite enough to beat Greenway.
How Rosemount has grown, from 3,000 to 33,000 people. I live about 6 miles from their arena.
To be honest, Edina is really looking forward to playing Tonka in the 3rd place game. Must see tv!Nostalgic Nerd wrote: ↑Fri Mar 06, 2026 8:18 pm Hanging on fear dear life Rosemount. . Wonderful redirect by Tonka.

Thank you, Spar. After the game, the story in the Star Tribune had a quote from one of the Greenway players, maybe Jeff Antonovich, who said, " it's nice to be the 65th best team in the state."Sparlimb wrote: ↑Fri Mar 06, 2026 8:04 pmMy memory of Tier II was that Rosemount was something like 1-17 going into sections and made the state final. Gino Guyer. Now there's a name from the past! Those family roots run strong up north!raidergrad72 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 07, 2026 7:13 amThank you, Spar. They returned in '01 as a AA team & finished 3rd. All their games went ot becoming one of three tournament teams where that happened.
Ken Gernander is the new arena manager in Coleraine after Pat Guyer retired after 36 years.
Yes. Ken was on the '87 tournament team. His dad, Bob, coached Greenway to 2 state titles, '67-'68 and appearances in '69, '70, & '87. Bob retired after a career as a scout for the Dallas Stars.Sparlimb wrote: ↑Sat Mar 07, 2026 7:48 amGino Guyer. Now there's a name from the past! I remember the name Ken Gernander too. Did he play for Greenway? Maybe in a tourney in the 80's?
