Good players stuck on not so good teams

My team played Bloomington Kennedy last Tuesday night and there was one player in particular who really stuck out for them considering they lost almost everyone else to open enrollment.

GHS you may know her considering your past with Kennedy? I'm not sure of her name, but she's #21 and she is a great player coming from someone whom had to defend her.

She has scored nearly all of their goals this season and is the sole reason why they aren't below Rosemount in the lake.

I am sure there are many players like her around the state that are toughing it out with not-so-great teams that could pass them up for teams like EP and Holy Angels.

I just thought it was necessary to give her praise for continuing to work hard and holding up the team as much as possible.

Not sure but I would suspect you are speaking of Nikki Ludwigson! Great player, great Kid, oh yeah and a phenomenal soccer player as well as hockey.

I think soccer is that sport with the round ball.

Yep - It's Nikki. To say she's a great perosn and hockey player is an understatement. One of the very best that I've ever came into contact with, and an absolute joy to coach.

She could likely play D1 in Hockey or Soccer, or, even BOTH!!!

Forgot to mention - she's a Straight A student as well, and probably as bright as any student-athlete I've worked with.

Well shoot, with all the others gone, why didn't she just transfer to Lakeville North and give us some much-needed offensive punch?

good player/nsg team

One player always mentioned in this conversation is Rochester Century's Jody Holland. She's a senior now, has piled up a ton of goals over her career, unfortunately this year she's on the worst team she's ever been on. Too bad her family didn't move into the south side of town when she got here!

SEhockeyDad I think I can recall playing against her as well last year in sections. If I remember correctly there were two players who really stood out on their team but one just graduated.. so the other one must be Jody. Yes she has definitely got a lot of talent.

#21 Whitney Naslund from Blomington Jefferson is definitely one of those players, she is very skilled and is an incredibly hard worker, I just hope that she gets the recognition she desevers.qew

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... olo1300 at: 1/27/06 11:38 pm

You can put Naslund and Holland in the same group with Ludwigson. I've had the opporutnity to work with all three at least a little over the years, and they are top players and people.

Hillman is a nice player, but Sarah Jenson is the one who's stuck on that nsg Albert Lea team. She' a very good defender who can shutdown a teams' #1, just ask Faber from Austin.

Standout Players on Not So Good Teams

Jensen is an excellent player on both defense and offense.
There are other worthy players on the squad too.

But Hillman has defined the AL girl's hockey team for multiple seasons, just as Woodside defined Tiger boy's basketball for multiple seasons. She remains at the top of every opposing coach's list as Problem #1 to be addressed.

Looking over an athlete's high school career, standout players not only exhibit sustained high performance (in spite of clunker games or clunker teams), but beyond that, when they are on their game, these athletes can display an almost surreal quality of play against high quality opponents.

The best definition I have is when you can look at moments and say "I didn't know a human being was capable of that."

There are a lot of good/very good/excellent players on not so good teams, but very few standout players on nsg teams.

Ashley Olson of Fairmont, a freshman, has 40 of her teams total 64 goals. That's 62.5% of her teams scoring, if my math is correct.

I think her assist total is like 3 or 4. I wonder if there is anyone else in the state that has a higher percentage of their teams points, and if there is anyone who has a higher disparity in goals/assists.

I would bet my left foot that this ratio is the best -- a number of teams use the "close enough" rule for the assists stat (boys and girls). You look at boxscores (even in high scoring games) and see that 90% + of the goals have two assists - as if there are no turnovers or a dominant player picking up a loose puck and scoring. Sorry to get off topic.

and a lot of times they don't give the second assist to the person who actually deserves it.
