USA Hockey Girls Development Camps

USA Hockey has finally made the decision to go to one year ages for their Girls Development Camps. Looks like it will take effect in the summer of 2007 and will probably mirror the boys side of the program with individual camps for 15, 16 and 17 year olds but that is still under discussion. They don't want to miss the 18 year olds, so they may be included in the 17s or added to the National Team camps held later in August. As I learn more facts, I will keep everyone posted. This will be a great asset because the two year camps often eliminated the younger player in the two year age group because they had to compete with a player a year older. This year USA Hockey is also holding only one of their girls camps in Lake Placid and the other two will be in Rochester, New York, at the ESL Center.

My assumption is that the restult will be more MN kids making the trip east. This is long overdue to give so many of our MN kids the chance they deserve to participate relative to the rest of the nation. I would argue that we have many MN kids staying home each year from Lake Placid that could easily compete out there.

are you saying that due to the restrictions on how many can go from any given district, that mn girls aren't able to represent because there are only so many spots from any given district? Won't districts lose spots if they don't send girls that can compete or deserve to go?
