The Star Tribune (sportshuddle) website says:
Edina 3 EP 2 - if they are wrong again I think we have a problem.
Sorry if I got some people excited but I did get this from their website.

EP was up 3-1 going into 3rd. Edina netted a goal in the third, but it ended 3-2 EP wins.

I was there too. EP wins. Remove the first 7 minutes of the game when EP scored their first 2 goals (the 1st was scored at something like 28 seconds) and it's a different game. EP won the first period by more than Edina won the 2nd and 3rd. Edina was obviously very nervous from the opening faceoff. The goalie was replaced after the 2nd goal.

EP will not win on Saturday if they play like they did tonight. I think it safe to say there was a lot of EP "coasting" with that 3-0 lead so early in the game. Observing the girls on both teams as they were filing out of the building you would have thought the result was the opposite of what it was.

Edina has nothing to be ashamed of. EP will have to work a lot harder to earn their way to state. I left after 1 period of the other semi-final - it was Wayzata 1 BSM 0 but I think it was going to be a barn burner!

Wayzata 4
BSM 0

Great game! Wayzata capitalized on their chances!

The EP vs. Edina game... EP came out hard and Edina a little flat. It looked like it was going to be another EP blowout. The second period was different... EP had something going on. I notice one of EP top defenders didn't touch the ice. #2 Seeler must have been hurt because she didn't touch the ice in the 2nd or 3rd period. This really changed the way EP played. Edina scored and started to pick up the pace. They are in my opinion a well coached underated team. They played with tons of heart and EP seemed to be missing something. I also notice EP #15 Megan Pezon was running to the garbage can to throw-up after some of her shifts in the 3rd period. I overheard someone saying that a few of EP's players were very sick and my guess was that maybe Seeler and Pezon were two of those players.
Overall I was impressed with Edina, they deserve a lot of praise for they way they continued to work.

Wayzata vs. EP on Sat. should be a great rematch of last years finals.

Hockeyhead

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... keyhead at: 2/16/06 7:52 am

head,

much of the team has the flu. all edina had to do was get out of the first period and they would have won the game. i imagine seeler and pezon will be feeling better next game but i wonder if other kids on the team will catch it.

i also wonder if the sick kids that played actually attended classes during the day.

I think most schools have a policy of being in school or you don't play! Not sure if it's a high school league rule or individual school rule.

Hockeyhead

At our school, it used to be a kid could come in to school before noon and spend the afternoon in the nurse's office and still be allowed to play. A couple years ago they changed it... If they're in the nurse's office for more than an hour, they have to either go home or go to class, and if they go home they can't play.

Never heard the Nurse's Office rule - but there is a MSHSL requirement in addition to a potential district/school policy as well...

The requirement was "in school for half the day." The nurse's office was "in school." But the rule was getting abused, that's why they went to the one-hour limit.

i was there too, and i felt that Edina should have won because they took it up a notch in the 2nd and 3rd period. Evemn though both teams just threw the puck away whenever they touched it. Jenny Taft on Edina is a special talented player, along with #15 on Ep is very good.

Are we really even discussing the fact if or if not the EP kids attended school? I know for a fact that they were at school because I am a classmate that talked to them numerous times throughout the day. Just because they won and were sick is it necessary to bring up school? They were there and I know they wouldn't sit in the nurses office just to say that they were in school. The posts regarding if they went to school is ridiculous....GO EP!!!!

Was someone seriously questioning if they went??? I thought the question was more about the rules and how they are applied/interpreted.

I'm sure the kids were in school.

ghs...That was my intent, just to talk about the rule, no malice toward Eden Prairie athletes intended.

Surprise, surprise. Of course it was questioned whether the kids were in school. The EP bashers never cease to amaze me.

I wasn't going to write anything about the sickness factor today for fear it would look like an excuse for a close game. However, instead of giving the kids credit for sucking it up and giving an effort despite puking on the bench...

There were several kids who went to school ONLY so they could play. I know they aren't the first kids to play a game sick, and they shouldn't be cannonized, but GIVE ME A BREAK.

Ah, the joy of being #1! SSP endured this for years, and the attacks followed.... Now the target has been transfered to EP...

EP/Way should be a great game, and EP has the makings of a true "dynasty" team.

if ep people are all upset now just wait till they begin to get absolutely no breaks from the refs. when a team dominates year after year it is almost as if the refs expectations of the team are much higher than its opponent and they begin calling the game in a very lopsided way.

Green,

My skin's plenty thick enough -- I let lot's of things go. Did you read all day long yesterday? The distinction is when baseless, negative remarks are made about kids. Especially by repeat offenders.

Next time there's an unfounded, negative remark about our kids, I'll reply. And the next time, and the next time. It probably won't help, but I'll keep trying.

I'm no fool, I know you pay for being on top. That's fine. I've chosen to comment when kids are singled out, that's all.
