Since we seem to have many golfers in the group I thought I would start a topic on courses. What are some of the best? Worst? Are there any hidden gems? The two Izaty's courses on Lake Mille Lacs, especially Black Brook, are nice courses. The worst are those 9-hole, par 3 courses where half the holes are less than 100 yards, like Hyland in Bloomington. <p></p><i></i>

Anything in Brainerd. My favorite course in the state though is probably Giants Ridge, really really cool course. And if anyone wants to come play some city golf, kodiak chew and I would love to play with ya. <p></p><i></i>

I've played it a bunch of times cause my cabin was out there. It's decent. There are some sweet holes, but really it's just middle of the road. It's very plain, and the driving range always gets flooded.<br><br>A course that is way underrated is Inverwood in Inver Grove Heights. I think it is very nice and very well priced. <p></p><i></i>

St Criox National in somerset is very nice. <p></p><i></i>

No Offense McBird but St Croix Nat'l has taken major steps back in recent years. Their budget isn't what it used to be and the condition of the course has suffered because of it. All you guys need to get a PGA card, major discounts on many courses, the card is only like 30 bucks and you can get it at any golf store. I saved at least 300 bucks last summer if not more. <p></p><i></i>

I have a cabin up in Brainard, and by far my two favorite courses up there are Deacon's Lodge and The Classic. They blow all the other courses away up there, especially the Legacy. The Legacy is the most overrated course in the state (in my opinion). Every hole is tricked up and some are just really unfair, it is not worth the money. <br><br>Down in the cities, the Minneapolis public courses have some nice layouts and are fun to play, but they are just not kept up very well for the most part. Starsalum and I like to hang out at Hiawatha a bunch if anyone wants to play.<br><br>My favorite course is Windsong Farm built by Tom Lehman three years ago. I think it is the new best course, but the other obvious nice private courses are Spring Hill, Interlachen, Minneapolis Golf Club, Hazeltine, Minnekada, etc.<br><br>Some nice public courses that are kept up nicely in the cities might are Chaska Town Course, Stonebrook, The Wilds, just to name a few.<br><br>Wessy, you missed Welna's hole-in-one. Windsong is without a doubt the nicest course Ive played in the state, just perfect. Chew, whats the word with it hosting a future major? <p></p><i></i>

I'm not sure it's the nicest course in the state. There are a lot of great ones. I'm going to say it's my new favorite course and has the potential to be the best course in the state, it is still young!<br><br>And I'm not sure about a major just yet, usually those go to older courses. But I have heard something about a World Golf Championships (WGC) event. Maybe not the match play, but something like that. <p>AHA 2002 & 2005 State Champions!<br></p><i></i>

I would definitely have to agree with the Chaska Town Course on best public courses and Izaty's Blackbrook. Last two holes at Izaty's though I am not in favor of. It's like they ran out of room and they needed to fit the 18th hole in somehow. Also the TPC of Twin Cities in Blaine is also a very nice course. <p></p><i></i>

I do maintenance work at The Meadows in Moorhead. Its a really nice Scottish-style links course. There isn't a single tree on the course, so when the wind blows its a killer, but if you get out there on one of the few calm days, scores can go low. Its a beautiful course and very well taken care of. I'd recommend it. <p></p><i></i>

Hidden gem's - Lake of the Sandhills on Lake of the Woods<br> Wildflower in Detroit Lakes<br> Castle Highlands in Bemidji<br><br>Overrated - Kings Walk in Grand Forks actually..any course in GF sucks<br> <br>Fun Courses - The Meadows in Moorhead<br> Elk River CC<br> <br><br>Terrible Courses - Greenbush, Warren, Crookston, Warraod (has potential but isn't taken care of), Baudette<br><br>This is just a quick list of courses I can think of worth mentioning in each category right now.<br> <p>Moorhead sets a new state tournament record!</p><i></i>

I think Elk River CC is a terrible course. You can't even hit a real golf shot in that tricked up mini putt putt land that they call a golf course. Very overrated! <p>AHA 2002 & 2005 State Champions!<br></p><i></i>

I agree, never really like ERCC. Go to The Links at Northfork or Fox Hollow for real golf. Haha the Vintage, I remember a few rounds there. Both times we played it had to be 35 degrees and rainy. Pretty fun executive course though. <p></p><i></i>

A few favorites.

Near rochester, Somerby is very nice.

If you venture out to central or western North Dakota you hafta try Hawktree north of Bismarck, and Bully Pulpit in Medora. Bully Pulpit is probably my favorite course of all time. its amazing.

Favorites: The Classic at Maddens, The Pines & Preserve at Grand View

Good tracks played: Somerby, Rochester CC, Willingers, Northfield CC, Troy Burne, Links at Northfork and Fox Hollow

Don't have access to many of the upscale private clubs... maybe someday

Try Whitefish for about half the price of the courses Arnie has his name attached to.

I'll be at Troy Burne in a week and a half. Always the best round every fall.

I broke 100 last year which really made it worth the trip. I'm awful.

Most of my favorites have been mentioned.

Dakotah Ridge in Morton is good one. Its a links course.

Its very interesting and different but not at all gimicky

Totally unlike the Brainerd courses but very fun and a challenge.

Either the the dutch or bobby's at the legacy in Brainerd.

Of course you could throw in Hazeltine which is playing as one of the hardest courses in the country right now.

The interlauchen secret society. If you got the cash its a filthy set up.

Played Valleywood GC in Apple Valley last week and the guy said the lowest score was a 68 this year. It seems easy but It's a nice and challenging course this time of year. Good Twilight price too!!
