Thoughts and prayers go out to New Orleans. The 4th strongest hurricane in recorded history if you go by the pressure of the hurricane, and it looks like it will hit New Orleans as a Cat 5 storm. Saw the worst case scenario, and it was 10,000 dead and New Orleans under water for 6 months. This is a very serious situation, and here's hoping that everyone stays safe and damages are to a minimum.
-------------------

Who is the orca? Who is the octopus? Amen to that ^^^ Saw that the winds were strong enough to rip holes in the Superdome. That is some major stuff going on down there. Thoughts and prayers with everyone involved and those who know them. <img src=

I went to a panel discussion about Hurricane Katrina here at CSB/SJU with different professors from various disciplines talking about the magnitude of what happend and how it affects so many different fields of study.

One of the scariest things mentioned was the preparedness of the rest of the country for a disaster. It was known that New Orleans was at high risk for this. (Although hindsight is always 20/20, this has happened before.) Here in MN we are lucky that we don't have to deal with hurricanes but does anyone remember the tornado that ripped through St. Peter a few years ago? Gustavus is down there and they were on spring break at the time. Every single window on the campus was blown in. The roofs were held down by 2 inches of pebbles. What if the school was not on spring break? I've seen what college kids do when severe weather hits, go outside and run around in it. What would have happened, what could happen if something similiar happens again?

We need not only to help New Orleans rebuild their lives but also make sure this doesn't happen again ANYWHERE.
