No Moorhead or Elk River bands?

Not exactly hockey related, but does anyone know why neither Moorhead nor Elk River brought bands tonight? I don't remember either school ever not having them at the tournament. It was weird.

I think it just fits this year. First the Pioneer Press has really poor coverage, then channel 9 does a bad job... It is just showing that to more and more people, its becoming just another HS tournament.

I've never been at a tournament game where they had to have a tape/CD of the Star Spangled Banner. It was a big disappointment not to see either band making it to the game.
Puckster

<a href="

dont suppose it has anything to do with the arrogance of the coach. elks were also ONLY team with out cheerleaders.bet sars cant be heard yelling if there were a band of students cheering. someone need to remind him that it for the kids not his ego.

ELKS-- I would say that Moorhead-SPUDS did!!! Even if Coach goes home after two games he should lrt the players stay and watch the SPUDS win it all.

The news I heard is that Moorhead does not have money to send the band- they said they will send the band if Moorhead makes it to the Championship game

funny, but why is it such a great coach needs so many assistants. 2 goalie coaches for 2 goalies and 4 or five assistants for 20 kids seem a little much. unless those are also scouts who identify who might be recruted for next years team. oh I forgot sars wouldn't do that and he has affidavits to prove it.

Thats to bad. A lot of schools are struggling. They (the band) should have taken in thier own hands. I'll bet they could have raised more then enough. (yes I'm a cons--) OPPS!!

It is becomming a thing of the past, as is said in ever a vs aa post, the aa school lack pride. At a football game in recent years, the home team had parent's night. The Spuds coach is quoted as saying something to the point of: Why do you do this? We don't even do this anymore...have I ever seen a band playing at Moorhead, Bemidji, or any of the big schools that we used to play in football, NO. It is becoming too much of a bother these days in big schools, no one cares about the cocky big jocks and the jocks don't care about anyone else. Now when it comes to money, give me a break. The Fergus band brings two bus loads of kids and the Fergus band is not even part of school funding anymore( the marching band anyway).................bottom line: in the big schools, no one cares and school spirit lags...........

I don't think it has anything to do with school spirit. It is a $$$ thing! Sending a band, bus, driver, overnight costs, food, etc. - even if some of the cost is paid by the band members - is huge. Don't you people see what is happening to school budjets?? There isn't money available for these kinds of things, especially if you are coming from 250 miles away.

I couldn't believe SSP didn't have any cheerleaders; at least it looked that way on TV. It's the STATE TOURNAMENT for cripe sakes. And no, their mascot "Sir Loin" doesn't count...<img src=

I have to disagree. I think Alot of it has to do with school spirit, but not all. With everything focusing so much on fairness issues, these bands have to schedule a date to play at each function, regardless of fan base. So the monies alotted for buses, etc. is already spent. This whole fair equity thing is way out of control. Just look at the post with where the revenue money goes that is generated from this tournament. Nothing back to hockey....it is insane! But, if there was school spirit you would think that these bands would do a little fundraising so they could have money to make it to these tournaments. Why does everyone just expect something will land in their lap without having to earn anything. You are certainly right, the school budgets are tight...we all know every school district needs all those administrative people to keep everyone else on track and able to do their jobs!!!

The moorhead band that plays at the hockey games also plays at the other sporting events during the winter. They came to a few games this year. And to say that AA teams lack schol spirit maybe you werent there at the xcel today when there was like a 1000 moorhead fans waiting to by tickets an hour before they went on sale. No way Moorhead lacks school spirit.
