Well... teams get shifted around every year. Some drop down to A, some move up from A and they need to compensate either way by balancing the sections. So more than likely you'll see some changes.

Shakopee will be moving up for next season. Likely will result in a change that could impact Sections 5, 6 & 8.

My hope is that Cent moves into section 4AA to coincide with their change in conference next year.

Sections are changed every 2 years and you can opt up to AA at this time. Next year is not the year thay were changed for this year.

ya, 2 out of the 3 greats in 3AA should make state, wbl/hm/cent 2 of em should make it. moving cent to 4AA would prolly be the best idea. Hill/WBL need to be in the same section because they have so much tradition between them.

Sections are redrawn every two years, but they do tweak them in the off year. I don't know if that means moving Shakopee up to class AA for next year. Their enrollment would put them there, but I don't know if they move them up in the off years.

The tweaking that does go on is if a cooperative is formed or split up, or if a team opts up (which is a four-year commitment) or down (if a team has done its four years and doesn't want to continue). If that happens, and it results in one section having too few or too many teams, then they would possibly move a team or two to make them more even. (I think they allow for a disparity of up to four teams in teh off year). That could mean they might address the disparity in Section 4A this year (only 8 teams, while some sections have 13). That came about after a couple of coop teams were formed (Prairie Center). But I don't know for sure.

cent definately should go to 4aa, and hm/wbl should keep the tradition up, but both teams are deserving to go to state-i think if hm/wbl would split up it should be wbl in 3aa and hm in 2aa-
if this were to happen, we'd get 3 unbreakable sections that would be incredible at state
2aa champs would be hill
3aa champs would be wbl
4aa champs would be cent
and thats what you want-the best teams in the state in the tourny, not weak teams like tartan.
BUT i don't see this happening, since it's based on geographic location. it's just a shame that we're being punished since we all live in relatively the same area

PIONEERS 2005 RTD

Jazzcat, would these be one team sections? Or automatic berths into the state tournament or would you have them play someone to get there? How about they have no playoffs just put in the top 8 teams? Lets see you have section 2,3, and 4 taken by the automatic berths. How about section 6 Edina, section 7, Eden Prairie section 8, Bloomington Jefferson. Section 1 Elk River, wait is that too far north? Great ideas! Also would this be the same every year or could others have a chance to play.
By the way there was a time when the Northern teams were punished for being relatively in the same area.Goes in cycles. The North will rise again most likely when teams start having to combine. I would like to see one Duluth team or a team of both Hibbing and Rapids.

HM and WBL have too much tradition, you gotta keep those 2 in the same section. Moving Centennial would to 4AA would not be a bad idea though. That would balance it out a little bit. But, I'm also concerned about 1AA, the competition down there doesn't look to be getting stronger as well as section 2AA. Moving Roseville back to 2AA wouldn't be a bad idea either.

They lose a lot this year (Ratalsky). They're going to have trouble competing at AA. They were a good fit in A. Prior Lake was too.

If Shakopee does move up (they were one of largest A schools and are growing fast, so they should) that makes half of the Missota Conference AA (Holy angels, Farmington, Prior Lake and Shakopee)
of the A schools:
Red Wing is declining in enrollment,
Hutch's enrollment is stable
New Prague is growing fast, but still has a way to go (if they get close, they'd probably drop Montgomery-Lonsdale co-op to buy a couple more years in A...only three kids this year, one on varsity)
Northfield is growing, but I think they've got a few more years before they go up.

moving down

This may be just a rumour, but i heard that Alexandria is moving from 8AA to 4A. The reason being the school size of Alex is getting smaller. They already moved soccer from AA to A in alex, and other sports such as football got moved down a class too. So it wouldnt be that big of a surprise if hockey got moved down too. if anybody knows anything about that let me know.
