The rosters for the Great 8 Tournament the final weekend of March have been posted on Minnesota Hockey's website as of today. Here's a link to the rosters. Looks like a great tourney.

<a href="http://www.minnesotahockey.org/2004%20G ...

The biggest surprise is no forwards from Centennial. I heard Gorowsky is injured and another teammate sick. Sorry they won't be there.

Does anyone really know why no forwards from Centennial? No Ornell or Ollila. Both I saw had great years with 57 and 53 points.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub33.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUser ... Hillfan at: 3/19/04 9:46 am

Im not sure about ornell but I know Ben is one of the best golfers in the state, and that is his main sport, he probably has commitments with that. Which brings up another topic, how many great hockey players are there that are good in two sports that don't get the recognition they should because they don't play in the summer or the elite league but would be some of you better players. Here are a few, John Kovacs
White Bear, Ryan Peckscamp, Sauk Rapids, Chase Evertz
Anoka. All football players. Im sure there are a lot of others, please list them.

Man, there's a lot of confusion about what the Great 8 is. Alex Goligoski is not on the 7AA team for the same reason a lot of people aren't on these teams: if you are already committed to a D-1 team or are playing in the USHL right now, you don't play in the Great 8. The Great 8 is a place for players to get notice (especially if you make the Chicago Showcase team) by junior and college scouts, and there's no reason to go if you've already got a commitment.

Petey, you're wrong again!

Petey, try again:

Hillen, taylor, Friesen, Bayers, Eli V. are all committed to D1 programs and they are listed on rosters. I am sure that Goligoski is not playing because he went to Sioux Falls after the season. The players with D1 committments are NOT eligible for the Chicago Showcase though. I know this for a fact, my son was asked to play but he had previous plans.

I haven't seen you blow one like this since you made your predictions on the Lake Conference at the beginning of the season. ( Kennedy ahead of Jefferson that was a good prediction! )

If a player plays in the USHL they are not eligibae to play in the great 8, at least thats the way it has been in the past.

Guru:

Eligible or not, the USHL season is still going on so if a player is playing in that league he is going to have games and would not be released to play in this tournament.

Shutout: You are right, Petey did blow this one. As I understand it, all seniors in the state are eligible for the Great 8. The participants each year are choosen by the coaches of the sections. It is then up to those choosen players to decide if they will play or not. Some choose to go on Spring Break, some are injured, and some choose instead to play in the USHL right after their HS season ends. I think those players can choose to come back from the USHL and play in the Great 8 that one weekend. Any player with a prior D-1 committment can not be choosen for the Chicago Showcase team at the end of the Great 8 Tourney.

Section 8AA, Nolan Oliver has declined due to signing for football at St. Cloud State. He felt it would better serve someone else that is trying to get a look.

Games are next Friday, Saturday and Sunday. All games are at Wakota arena in South Saint Paul. 4 games each day, 2 on each rink. Petey: I believe it is kind of a gray area, but that you are right. The whole idea behind the Great 8 was for those players that do not have prior commitments. Whether it is written or not, those who have commitments to the USHL or D1 usually pass.

in speaking about multiple sports
edina's varsity team had 7 players that are 3 sport
letter winners this past year.
I would bet there are very few aa schools that have the same ratio.

Also another interesting statistic. there were 27 varsity level skaters (10-12) that have skated in the Edina program that are playing in a non Edina varsity level program (including junior, ntdp or shattuck) this year. In addition the Edina Jr Gold A team is in the finals and th JV team ended up second in the Classic Lake(1 game behind Wayzata) The Bantam A's are playing in the consolation finals and the Peewees are in the State finals.

There is no other program in the state that has that depth.

let me guess, your three sport players played soccer, hockey and golf, track or baseball, wait I bet one or two were on the dance line. How many kids from the state champions played football and hockey, or another sport. How about MR. Hockey? Point is this, all the finalist for Mr. Hockey play nothing but hockey.

Edina, did they not lose to MHD Bantam A's, thought so. Give it up, Edina is cake eating program that had good hockey teams way back when.

The "O" Train left his mark at state.

Mr hockey this year is also actually the captain of the centennial tennis team, and as for the state champs, they have a soccer captain, 3 football players, another soccer player, a baseball player, 2 golfers, and some lacrosse players.
