Traditionally, if a northern team was playing a metro team, most people would pull for the northern team. The northern teams were always considered the "darlings" and people would rally behind them. I'm starting to sense that Moorhead may be the exception to this. I don't sense that "neutral" people are big fans of the Spuds. Is it because they have had alot of success? Grand Rapids, for instance, had alot of success in the 80's yet people would still pull for them. Maybe it's just my perception, but I don't feel the love for the Spuds like people used to. I guess the same can be said for Warroad, but that might be for different reasons. Just a thought. <p></p><i></i>

I agree like the team i most of the fans, maybe if everyone didnt talk about in every damn thread it wouldnt be so bad. <p></p><i></i>

They are also a bigger school. Traditionally, when a "darling" of the north faces a city team it is seen as a Hoosiers type situation where it is a small school against a Large traditionally power (Roseau v. Edina). Moorhead is a large school that has established themselves as as big of a power year in and out as any city team. <br><br>In 93? when Jefferson played Hill-Murray for the championship, just about everyone was rooting for Jefferson to win because Hill was the "rich kids" that had a rich tradition of winning. Jefferson wins 3 titles in a row, shows up to play Duluth East in 1995 and 15,000+ fans are cheering against them. <br><br>Moorhead has basically become a city team like Hill, Jefferson, or Edina because of the tradition they are establishing, and they are a AA sized school. <p></p><i></i>

The only way to consider Moorhead a northern team is that they are in section 8. Then again so are River Lakes, Monticello, St. Cloud Tech, St. CLoud Apollo, and Alexandria. <br><br>Nevermind...sectoin 8 wouldn't even be considered "northern" if it wasn't for Roseau and Bemidji. <p></p><i></i>

Kind of funny. Slappy says see what happens when you win all the time. Yet the Spuds have won nothing. A few section 8 titles. Who hasn't won a bunch of them. The Spuds feel they invented the game, but have yet to hang a banner. The Spuds are basically a cities school, playing in a rural area. They have a lot of great fans, but alot of arrogant ones also. Maybe the Spuds, by not winning the big one, have not come to understand how awesome the state tournament is. Maybe Spud fans take it for granted and don't understand that it is not always about them. Someday they may understand they are just a part of something great called Minnesota High School Hockey and they will begin to respect others and in turn be respected. <p></p><i></i>

Hey Slappy, show me the banners the next time I'm in Moorhead. By the way the Rams are just fine. I wouldn't be suprised if we hung another banner before the Spuds do. When you and the rest of the Spud fans win something meaningful come on back and brag. Until then, you can come up to Memorial and see what real winners have to show. You Spud fans just don't get it. There is and old saying, "Act like you've been there." I keep forgetting you never have, so you don't know how to act. <p></p><i></i>

How can you say that Moorhead has never been there? They've been in the championship game 5 times in the past 10-15 years.
