It's not a joke, but it's hasn't been confirmed by anyone. It's actually The Hockey News that is reporting it, but they don't mention anything specific about this season (25 games, etc).

nhl back?

judging from the replies on here i dont think many people wil agree with me, but i could care less if the nhl comes back with the same players that only care about money. and dont say they dont care since they agreed to a $45 million dollar salary cap. if they weren't so money hungry before this season started all of this could have been avoided, but they chose themselves over the few loyal hockey fans there were left in this country. the money they were making was more than enough to sustain a more than healthy lifestyle. they got greedy, and because of it, lost many fans that they didn't have much of to begin with. if the owners thought they were losin money before, just wait till they start again and cant sell out a game, other than here in minnesota, detroit, and denver.give me players that care and play for the passion of the game, not 7 figures on a paycheck.

Well said, after this year I have lost all respect for the NHL. I would much rather watch kids who are playing for the love of the game and not 5 million dollars. Not to mention it will only cost me 13 dollars to watch my spuds win their first title, well hopefully.

Canadian websites are saying no deal or even a meeting yet. Wayne G & Mario L are being invited to meet with the leaque today Sat. to see if they can solve the issue. But as of yet nothing has been decided.

And here is a few more things to chew on, both sides are being steered by greed. I read that both sides have been stashing money away for this years lockout for up to quite a few years. The Owners and Players Union knew this was coming after the last collective bargaining agreement was signed. Thats why both sides can afford to holdout this long and there was no urgency to hash out an agreement.

KARE 11 said last night that The Hockey News is saying there is a reported meeting/announcement today between the NHL & NHLPA. I think they said around 11am. Also the Hockey Night in Canada website mentioned the meeting as well. (and here is the link to that) <a href="

Espn has this deal basically done. No one is willing to admit to it because if it falls through no one wants to look like a fool again. As for the players comming back I dont care who comes back as long as they open up the ice for them to come back. Get rid of the trap and lets see the skill these guys do have. If they dont open this game up some how then there will still be problems makeing this a national sport like football or baseball. I hope they get this done today though, got to love playoff hockey!!!!

Won't happen. Too bad that they settled (if they did) - this could have been a good opportunity to change the league's mindset on the game - make it more enjoyable to watch.
SectionFan

Like I said both sides are going to say nothing untill its signed, Espn radio is updateing the talks that are going on in New York as we speak. I'm guessing they will get the deal done today or tomorrow and keep the season off untill next year so that they can make some rules changes. If the sport wants to become main stream and be a top money maker the league has to change so rules. the Olymipic sheet of ice sounds good but it wont happen. to many areas would have to be changed over. Look for the Trap and clutch and grab hockey to be over with

It would be kind of hard to eliminate the trap. What would you do, give the team that does it a penalty like the NBA used to with a zone defense?? Eliminating the red line and 2-line passing would be a fabulous idea. I really think it would increase scoring and exciting plays, i.e. breakaways.

Un-cancelled season?

I think if they reach an agreement today, it will be for this season. I mean, if they still thought they could reach play games after last Wednesday, I don't think a few more days is going to hurt a chance of getting 28 games or so in.

With the state the league is in now, I don't think going a couple days into June before the playoffs end is a huge problem.

Check out this link:
<a href="

TSN quotes Bill Daly saying after the meeting that it did not go well and that it is to late to save the season.
