I think it is borderline absurdity that a team such as Roseville that (according to CoachGuy) could perform well the top level chooses to play at a less competitive level. Situations like this make at least 45 minutes of hockey no fun for opposing teams, and that's 45 minutes too many.

If this is in fact the case, than the actions by the Roseville Hockey Association have reinforced my opinion that the association as a whole doesn't adhere to the notion of equal competition.

Is there a reason they aren't playing at the A level, CoachGuy? Or is it because they just don't want to?

no idea WBL...last year i knew we were a B team, but if had continued coaching this year i would have moved up to A. I think that the reasoning behind it was that they would stay and be competitive, seeing as we needed to win/tie out last 3 games last year just to make that #8 seed. However, i watched a bit of the jefferson vs. anoka A game after on sunday and i thought jefferson would have beaten roseville but that anoka probably would have lost.

And ya know what, this could all be hearsay too...if what i what i thought mattered, we would have been undefeated last year and we wouldnt have to play any games. Anything can happen on the ice.

Just responding to wbl… I am a player on the Roseville team and to answer your question as to why we are playing at the ‘B’ level it is simply because, this being our last year of hockey for most of us, we want to have fun. Playing at the ‘B’ level will allow us to conclude our hockey years with an atmosphere that is more welcoming than that of what most of us are used to. All of us, being that we are playing junior gold as opposed to high school, means that for one reason or another we have been unsuccessful in hockey. This is our last opportunity to be around the game we love and we don’t want to spend that having to kill ourselves in practice. It’s not about winning every game, but more so about wanting to come to the rink everyday. Not to say that you need to win in order to have fun, but I believe we would be a mediocre ‘A’ team at best, even if we practiced like a high school team. And as I am sure you are familiar with, many of the kids that play junior gold, don’t always have the best attitudes and patience to say the least. And implementing a drill team atmosphere would certainly result in kids leaving our association. Like I said, we aren’t here to win every game, we just want pursue our passion for the game for the last time.

Went and watched Hudson and SSP last night. Hudson won 2-0. SSP was the by far the more talented team but Hudson played a good disciplined game. Both Hudson goals were because of SSP mistakes. Also Two SSP players were thrown out for mouthing off to the ref.

My assumption is that if your team was playing at the A level, you would have the same coach as now. It's hard to believe that the practices would be drastically different because of the level change. They definitely weren't from the 16U-B transition.

Just because you didn't make the varsity team for one reason or the other doesn't make you unsuccessful by anymeans. If you claim that you wouldn't have any fun on the A team, I wouldn't say you messed up somewhere down the line, I would blame the hockey association.

If "to have more fun" is the reason you're playing at the B level when you should be at the A level, than this is the most unfounded reason of them all. There are plenty of seniors having a great time at the A level -- yes, even on mediocre teams.

And, as you stated, fun doesn't need to include winning.

WBL-Black had a very good showing this weekend in the Rochester tournament. They beat Souix Falls in double OT, and Tartan 6-5. They lost, however, to a talented Redwood Falls team 5-4 in the championship game. They showed a lot of promise for the upcoming season.

We beat Eden Prairie 3-2 last Thursday. It was a really well fought game. We'll probably see them again this weekend in our tournament at Superior.

I saw most of the first period of Roseville Vs Maple Grove yesterday. From what I saw there is NO way that Roseville should be playing at the JGA level. I would say that they are a good JGB team. From what I saw the game was pretty even but Roseville did have a couple of good scoring chances to MG's 1. But when I left the score was still 0-0.

anybody have an update on that game?

Are you sure you watched Roseville? They played Buffalo yesterday at OJ, and the score is on the website. If you are confusing the maple grove team for the osseo teams then they tied roseville 2-2 on the 12th of december.

does Roseville have a U16 or JGA team?
Maybe that was them then.

All I know for sure is it was Roseville Vs OMGHA @ Maple Grove Community Center on Jan 4th at 8:30 pm. I suppose it could have possibly been a JV game/scrimmage. The game was only 60 mins long.

This year, like last year, Roseville has a JGB team and a U-16 team. Both are doing very well. I believe that the b team is 9-0-1, and the U-16 is 7-1-0. I watched both of them play on jan 5, The B team beat Buffalo 11-1 and the U-16 beat WBL Orange 7-3. I think that both of the Roseville teams will travel far into the playoffs.
