Just wondering what some of the thought's were on how St.Cloud has handled there travel teams at the peewee and bantam levels the last 3 years. (the 2 "A" teams) and how competitive are they going to be this year.

SCYHA went back to 1 Bantam A team this year

Last season, St Cloud could very well have had the best Bantam A team but slitting into two A teams pushed many of the top players to go to HS teams early.

Now that they are going with one A team, will the top players stay in Bantam A's? How many freshman are going into HS hockey?

Wow! One team only, St Cloud is huge. How many players at the Peewee and bantam level tryout! Sounds like Rochester all over again.

When will St. Paul have just one team! I bet they would be tough also
with one team.

St. Cloud numbers:

416 players registered. This number does not include U16 and U14 girls
o Jr. Mites 64 players (girls are not included in this number)
o Mites 69 players (girls are not included in this number)
o Squirts 70 players including girls
o Peewee 80 players
o Bantam 71 players
o Girls U8 31 players
o Girls U10 21 players
o Girls U12 15 players

Those are some respectable numbers; not huge but not small either, one would think there would be more for a city that size. It would be tough for any association to field two A teams at any level with those numbers.

You would think they would be larger being the school district is from Clearwater to Avon almost on I94?

how in the world do they expect to support 3 thre high schools in town with only playing one A bantam team, they should have their head checked, all except one year they cant even compete with one team in D-10.. ther are other problems here that they just want to cover up with one team

Last year, they had two PW A teams and they were 3 and 4 in the district standins. That pretty good. Yeah, last years bantams were horrible, but thats because a whole team full went up to HS. They should stick with two A teams and stop whining if they don't win districts.

How many Bantam A teams does Eagan have? Or Coon Rapids? Or Plymouth? How are all those Brooklyn Park Bantam teams doing?

By the way St. Cloud guys, I love the MAC, with the open concourses, etc. I attended a tourney there last spring, and it's great especially for going back and forth between the two rinks.

I have put a few kids through the program, and it is the most dysfunctional organization one could imagine. It is run by non hockey people. All of the hockey talent in St Cloud knows to leave and get training in the MPLS area. The push is just to survive the program long enough to get your 'get out of jail' card. Hats off to the St Cloud high school coaches. They should consider formimg their own Bantam teams.

The smart guy says Bloomington has two associations. Some kids who live in Eagan might play for Eastview. As for the number, I don't think 60 kids will support two quality A teams let alone one. I heard that Wayzata had 80 kids just for their A pool.

numbers are great, but I've never had easy games against Roseau or Warroad. Neither town has more than a fraction of the population.

Look at the Johnsonpres who posts on here, he's maybe got an IQ in the 60's, but he sounds smarter than you guys.

I agree with d8scout the program in st cloud is a joke. the board runs all of the good people out of the program, the coach in charge dosn't know the first thing about hockey let alone how to coach it. I really feel for the talented players they have there because they have no chance.

With the numbers Highland it should think about two "A" teams but there one A team has trouble. As far as the other two associations Como has about 32 pee wee's and I heard Johnson has 40 some. If Como and Johnson combined they still would struggle outside of district 1. From what I have seen there is not many true athletes left in the cities they run to the suburbs.

Until White Bear bleepin' Lake produces one 'true athlete' who can sniff the jock of Jack Morris, Dave Winfield, Paul Molitor, or Joe Mauer, you better watch your mouth.

I am from St. Cloud. The St. Cloud Youth Hockey Program is a joke. 3 Years ago St. Cloud had a PeeWee A Team who at one time Ranked #1 in state. We competed with the Edinas, the Blaines, and we competed. We only got better. Last year, we would of gone to state or dam near close to it. But the association decided to split to 2 A teams. Leaving all the talented players feeling like our teams were going to get watered down. So alot of people left to play highschool. If we would of had 1 A team. We would have had almost the same team from 3 years ago in PeeWee A, but better. The association was a once respectable program who could actually compete with centennial, edina, blaine, and the others. Now, when we showup at the Moorhead tournament, we are no longer a threat. The S.C.Y.H.A. board rules out anybody who tries to say anything that the President does not agree with. It is a dictatorship that will only go downhill from here.

I totally agree with StaeOfHockey. If we would of had 1 A team last year all the HS kids woulda stayed adn we couldve possibly put up a fight against Centennial alst season. But nope, we had 2 A teams and now this year...what do we have? 1 A team. wow

Our bantam A team this year is left with no talent except with a few decent players who have potential. But their not going to make it far without decent coaching and a decent program. The next few years of the high school programs in st. cloud will be good. But after that, everything is downhill.

There will be a few pretty good players coming out of bantams in the next 2 years but I dont really know about the peewees this year for St. Cloud. The future looks a little shaky for St. Cloud unless if the the Peewees do something this season from my point of view.

From what I understand, the PeeWee's went along with 2 A teams this year. In my mind, a big mistake. We do not have the numbers in the PeeWee level to make 2 PeeWee A teams that can compete. S.C.Y.H.A. is a joke. It's a dictatorship. Farewell St. Cloud Hockey.

I pulled up St. Cloud Web page and they only have 5 Squirt teams this year. That seams low from other years. Trying to feed three high school programs and any kids that might go over to Sauk Rapids on open enrolment programs could really hurt.

S.R. Will be in the tank for years to come too with no Pee Wee or Bantam A teams at all? Kids are so good they directly go to High School.

They're right having 2 Bantam A teams didn't work, but didn't both Pee Wee A teams last year go to regions and were rated in the top 20 most of the year?

You may be right about that, I haven't really been paying much attention to the PeeWees, but last year was terrible what they did to the Bantams.
