Let's keep this thread just to half significant or better off season moves.

Twins sign 1B/DH Ken Harvey to minor league deal.
Twins sign IF Jeff Cirillo to minor league deal.

Add as you may.

Shannon Stewart is officially a Free Agent. His contract was up after the 2006 season. ESPN.com Free Agent Tracker

Also of note, the Twins DID NOT tender 3B Luis Rodriguez a contract before the deadline of 9PM Eastern on Tuesday, December 12th which makes him now officially a Free Agent.

That explains the Jeff Cirrilo signing a little bit.

am i the only one who gets upset of the twins' signing of these old washed up losers? these band-aids that are quick fixes to something that needs a long term solution. rubin sierra, paul nevin, jeff cerillo, tony batista, rondell white... i know the list goes on, but that's all that i can think of off the top of my head.

we need to spend some freakin money and get someone worth our time.

Twins sign Rondell White to a one year deal. 2.75 mil. I think.

I'm hoping this is a rumor perpetrated by the media, but it appears the Twins are cozying up to Sidney Ponson.

Give Ponson some money, get him into camp and see what he can do. Three years ago he was the deadline darling. If he's got his personal life in order now maybe he can throw 200 innings and win one for everyone he doesn't. If so, it could be the best acquisition nobody will talk about.

Rondell actually hit the snot out of the ball the last few weeks and in the playoffs. He'll do well in '07, guarenteed.

As for what TomTheBomb wrote on December 14th, it's Phil Nevin, not Paul. But we can add Jesse Orosco and Rick Reed to that list of wash-ups the twins have signed in recent years.

I know the Twins compete well every year, but I hope they spend a little money to help out Santana or maybe another big bat. What is with Minnesota and not wanting to spend the money on their teams? The Wild finally spent some this year, the Twins usually give up players that will require bigger contracts, the Vikings waste their money on Culpepper. At least the T-wolves get it right by keeping Garnett. I swear if they get rid of him I will never cheer for another MN Pro sports team.

What about the Lynx? J/K I feel your pain. I didn't mind watching Culpepper play until the last year or two he was here. I don't watch the T-pups enough to care if the have Garnett or not.

The Twins have actually made some pretty concerted efforts to keep their core together. They have thrown big money at Hunter, Radke, and Santana and have put some aside to pay for Mauer, Morneau, and Cuddyer. They're never going to be a big player in the free agent market, but if they continue to scout well, develop a good farm system, and hold onto key players they will remain competitive.

I think the Wolves problem has been hanging onto Garnett. He is a great player, but his super-elite years are behind him, and his massive contract has handcuffed the Wolves from getting other big-time players to sign with them. It's clear they're not going to win with him, might as well start life without him.

Honestly, as good of a year as Cuddyer had I would not give him big money. I would give him average money for a RF with his experience.

I'm going to have to agree to disagree with you Blue. Garnett is still an elite player and definately makes the players around him better and he's a stand up athlete, something we can't say for several of the Vikings.

I completely agree with that. I went to one of his basketball camps when I was a youngin', and he was a great guy, talking to the kids and always helping whenever he could. He stayed after for about 5 hours the last day of camps signing autographs for every camper, you really can't say anything bad about his character.

He is still elite, but not the Top 5 player he was a few years ago. I just think that what is best for both the Wolves and Garnett would be for him to move to another team. He is not going to win a title here, and the Wolves will continue spinning their wheels if Garnett is their focal point for the next few years.

I guess the only way I'd want to see Garnett go, was if he was going to win the championship that he deserves.

Garnett

Garnett has to go. I love what he can do, but we need to blow up the team, get rid of trash like Hassel, get some HIGH picks, and try again. Of course, McHale will have to be fired sometine before the "try again" part

It is, but it's hard to maintain a thread full of Twins off-season moves, unless you count the signings of fading veterans to minor league contracts. :?
