Is There Too Much Fighting in Junior Gold

Last night I attended a Junior Gold game, there were 5 fights and 4 kids got kicked out of the game. One kid even slashed the other kid in the neck. Now I'm not against fighting in hockey, but come on, junior gold and 5 fights, that's out of hand.

i agree with white bear. its those "guys" that give junior gold a bad name. they should be punished to the full extent of the 3 game suspension and possibly have a team penalty too.

Well to me that sound like one of those weird games where two teams just don't like each other. Normally theres a few small scruffles but nothing much, there is an occasional fight and a rare brawl, but that is all.

yeah that blaine team had a lot of kida that thought they were REALLY tough... especially their captains. #6 was running around the whole time tryin to knock people out but all he managed to do was get knocked out himself. he got smoked by probably over half our team, and tried talkin smack after every one of em.

i enjoy how the fat pappa insults junior gold, the only logical explanation is that he is pulling a boblee with the complex, and never playing. Or, his kid got cut from a junior gold A and B team, sorry to hear about your kid pappa, i send my condolences

I think the new rules have STOPPED fighting that used to happen. I've been coaching Jr Gold B for 9 years and there is very few fights. Rules for fighting is 3 games & fight again done for season. That has worked great and three penalties your done for that game, has helped the game too!! JrGoldCoach

Are you saying boblee has never played hockey?

This is definitely not helping the game. Its more turning it into basketball, or even worse, soccer. They need to let us play more and stop it with all the retarded little hooking and tripping calls.

Fighting should be okay, just get a five minute and you're good to go. But we can at least stay away from the cheap hacks.

You need to stop talking. You obviously know very little about the history of hockey or even how the game is supposed to be played. Do not pass go, do not collect $200. Just be quiet.

you be quiet. Fighting is part of the game. Although it needs to be under the right circumstances. Such as cheap shots towards a teams goalie. If these new rules keep getting more harsh, JG will turn into f***ing soccer.

WBL players don't seem to get it. These are not new rules, there is just greater enforcement of existing rules, the way it use to be. I never said I was against fighting, I totally think it should be there, in the NHL. But since I'm sure the majority of you would probably hurt yourself trying to fight, I recommend you leave it alone. You guys have a decent squad though and good luck with your season.

Two observations. 1) theref is an egomaniac. 2) fighting and cheap shots overall are down in Jr Gold from where they were 5 years ago. In fact, I think we could probably shake hands AFTER a game again in most circumstances. The players just want to play like in all other levels. Only difference is they are older and don't usually view the game as competativly as they once did; say on Squirt through Bantam travel teams. Many players (and it appears many teams overall) are just there to have fun and play a sport that they enjoy. This translates into a reduced lack of concern for a trip to the box. Couple this with the fact that the refs usually call the game more like a peewee game than a high school game (the players are HS age) and you see many teams with a relativly large number of penalties. Doesn't mean that they are fighting or giving more cheap shots though.

I totally agree. the refs do call the game like its at a lower level. they need to let us play more and if things start to get out of hand then call the game tighter. the only reason why teams have so many pentlies is because the refs call too many plenties that should be let go.

exactly, you hit the nail right on the head....but tonight we (chaska) played prior lake and at the end of the game #10 went nuts and dropped and his gloves and took off his helmet. prolly one of the funniest things ive ever seen, all of his team was just standing by their bench and our team was just watching the kid freak out. kids like that give jr gold a bad image.

What was the problem he was freaking out about?
