9-1 Hibbing is going down to Rochester to play Mayo Friday and John Marshall Saturday. How will they do?

i think if hibbing plays disciplined and does everything right they will sweep.

I think so too. The 0-6 shutout loss to Roseau is the only thing bringing them down. When Hermantown comes to town, and the section 7 final should be really good games.

Good win by hibbing.. 3 unanswered goals in the 3rd period to win 4-2. Kapella and Stampohar each with 2 goals for the jackets.

So Hibbing outshoots Mayo 40-15 or so and wins 4-2.
Virginia crushes JM 11-3.

Predictions for Saturday?


If Donohue plays like he did Friday, I think Mayo might win - provided they can contain that top line. I am sure that Hibbing will handle JM.

Did anyone notice that I said that both Hibbing and Virginia might go double-digits on the Rockets?

Everyone tries to contain that top line, its not something thats real easily done, and really hasn't happened this year (except maybe the Irondale goaltender). I don't think Mayo is going to be able to hold them to less than three. Donahue will have to be as good or better than last night if Mayo stands a chance. Virginia averages over 37 shots on goal per game. That includes games against Cloquet, Grand Rapids, Hermantown, Little Falls, Duluth Denfeld, International Falls, and Thief River Falls... and I'm not convinced that Mayo is in the same category as those teams.

The upside for Mayo is that the scoring punch is nearly gone from Virginia's second line due to injuries and they definitely have the goaltending advantage.

The Hibbing/John Marshall game won't be much of a contest.

I think the range teams come back with a complete sweep of the Rochester duo. Virginia wins 5-3 and Hibbing wins 8-2.

Anyone have anything on the Hibbing/JM game yet.

5-1, Virginia final. Only highlight of the game, may be Thauwald sniping Virginia's goalie from outside of the blue line, top shelf. That was about as exciting as the game got for Mayo.

Hibbing won 9-3.

I heard it was tied at 3 midway through the game. Hibbing called a timeout and scored six unanswered afterwards. Hibbing also scored five powerplay goals in the game.

Hibbing was up 3-0 then the game was 3-3 midway through the second when Hibbing called time out and it was all Hibbing after that. The big difference was Hibbing was 5-7 on the power play. DeCenzo had 8 points, Kapella 7, and #22 6 or 7. Easily the best line I've seen so far this year.

I don't think that Goldy realized that #22 is Kapella when he wrote this.

I also thought Hibbing's top line is impressive as well - they work well together, skate like crazy and know how to finish.
I was also impressed w/ Hibbing's 2nd line when I saw them Friday night against Mayo.

Anyone know how many points N. Sachetti's line had this weekend? Did they provide much of the offense in the win over Mayo?

in the hibbing-JM game, Anthony DeCenzo had 5 goals and 3 Assists, and Kappella had 0 goals but 6 assists and Marsh had 2 goals and 3 assists, so the Top Line For Hibbing was outstanding today and the Final was Hibbing: 9

Sacchetti's line had one goal in the Mayo game, although he is on the top powerplay unit and that unit added two more. In the JM game, that line scored 5 goals and the PP unit added another while Sacchetti was on the ice. Suprisingly, the other lines and second PP unit scored 7 goals this weekend, 2 vs. Mayo and 5 vs. JM.

Overall the forwards that were on the top line this weekend:
Nico Sacchetti - 3 Goals, 6 Assists
Mark McGillivray - Goal, Assist
Kevin Urick - 2 Goals, Assist

Defenseman Scott Kishel had 4 goals and 2 Assists and 2nd-line Center Cody McNamee tacked on 5 Goals. Kyle Andrews (3rd line) scored the only other goal on the weekend.
