I gotta say I am most looking forward to the Section 3AA tournament, with the potential for some great matchups with 4 possibly 5 solid teams in there. This section really appears to be up for grabs, with no clear favorites and should be a hard fought tournament. I

also wouldn't mind seeing the 7AA tournament, see if East can put it back together, or Grand Rapids can start firing on all cylinders to knock off Cloquet.

altough it is a weak section... the 2AA matchup between CDH and Woodbury sure looks like a good one...

6AA has four or five teams that could make the trip to St. Paul.

Lets not get carried away, they have three at best. With a good potential matchup in the final round, Edina vs either Benilde, or Tonka

EP, Edina, BSM, Tonka, and possibly Jefferson if they can figure out a way to turn their season around. So either which way you look at it...4-5 teams.

Cloquet, Duluth East, Grand Rapids, Elk River, Brainerd, Forest Lake....

I'm glad I live where I do, because I will be able to watch this and 7A unfold. 7A with Hermantown, Hibbing, Virginia, I Falls, Greenway, and Eveleth will be just as fun!

Exactly, it's like there is 7AA and then 3 empty levels before you finally drop to 6AA or 3AA.

If what your saying is true I guess Minnesota Hockey isn't all it cracked up to be. If a 7-4 Eden Prairie(with losses to Eastview, Rosemount, Elk River, and a tie to Apple fricken Valley) is a state caliber team. Sorry but they just aren't having a great year. and Jefferson? 4-8 is all i have to say.

Ok I wouldnt go that far...but you guys are blessed with both 7A & 7AA tournaments. I'll admit there is no better 1-2 punch in the state.

I hope u mean 4-8-1!!! Look, I'm not saying that either team is going to dominate their way to the state tournament or anything. Your taking my words and putting them way out of context. Look at the past section 6AA tournaments, basically anything goes. Jefferson was the favorite last year and was knocked off by a very good Minnetonka team. And in 2004 Minnetonka made a very good run to the section finals where they were beaten by Wayzata. As a coach I wouldn't take any of those 5 teams listed above lightly. Both EP and Jefferson have playmakers on their teams that will step up during sections. No senior wants to keel over and give up on what could be their last year of playing hockey. Besides we're talking about what will be the best section tournament to watch, not what section is going to win state.

I also agree with the fact that 7AA will be the most competitive section, followed closely by 3AA. But come late Feb. and early March section 6AA is always a fun one to watch.

We all know you can't use schedules for comparison. WBL has a losing record and the are ranked way above many who have a much better record than them. Not saying one opinion one way or the other, but just like in all sports, Lake Conference teams are good, and they all beat up on each other. They aren't going to have good records.

Kind of like the Missota and football; it is such a good conference that the teams lose many games to each other, but even 4-4 teams go to state and do well.

I would put 5AA as my 4th with many great AV/AHA games in the Past. 7 then 3 then 6 then 5 then 8 then 1 then 2 then 4.

I am really surprised no one has picked 5AA for that reason.

So, curious to hear from people who picked the sections at the bottom of my list why they think that's the best?

I'm partial to 3AA primarily because of Hill and the classic games involving White Bear over the years. Early on 7AA looked like they would be a section filled with elite teams. I have seen East, Forest Lake, and Brainerd, and wasn't thrilled with any of them. I was disappointed watching Brainerd this past week after hearing that they gave Cloquet a game. After seeing Brainerd I wonder just how good Cloquet is. I think the teams are all fairly decent and should be a competitive section. Same could be said for almost all the sections (with the exception of 1AA). Good thing is the semis/finals will allow people to see great games around the entire state.

i'm looking forward to the 2AA section finals with CDH (defending state champs) vs Woodbury...it was a good game last year with CDH winning by a goal and its going to be even a better game this year with the seasons both CDH and Woodbury are having

Brainerd played extremely well against cloquet so its tough to say you dont know how good cloquet is

sections are getting to be more dominant and horrible as it goes on. I think they need to re sort the sections so there are not dominant sections like 3 and 7 and then horrible ones like 1. Section 3aa and 7aa are always in the winners bracket of state and 1 is always in the 7th place game. here are what the sections look like
My Section Rankings:
3AA-5 to 6 strong teams every year
7AA-Always a good representative in state. 4 to 5 state caliber teams
6AA-Good private school in benilde and then there is edina. Should be good
this year.
5AA-Holy Angels should handle this. Maybe 1 or 2 others with a chance.
4AA-4 good teams in elk river, wayzata, maple grove, and osseo. Will be a
tourney this year. Hopefully the winner competes well in state.
2AA-Cretin, woodbury, roseville, and tartan will all be looking to go to state.
Experience will count and cretin wins over roseville.
8AA-Moorhead easily back to st. paul
1AA-Horrible. Most likely one of the lakeville teams like usual. Maybe
Mayo.

Whoa, Whoa, Whoa, Kenny Woo. The sections have changed since you've been around. Elk River is in 7AA. I think that Roso might have some disagreements with Morehead getting to state easily.

that is right riverskater i forgot that elk river is now in 7aa. Now with that wayzata mg and osseo have an easier road. Roseau will lose to moorhead though in the championship

how do people think rogers will fair in section 4aa

Although i fell like the 7AA tourny will be very competitive, i am looking forward to the 8AA tourny, i have a feeling htere could be an upset here or there, nevertheless it should be a fun one to watch.
