I have not had the chance to see Edina this year. From all accounts, they seem the clear cut #2 team? Can you guys give a report on them? Will they beat EP?

Personally I think EP is indeed very good, but I think they will NOT go undefeated. They are battle tested and deep, but not the same team without Pezon. She took them to another level. Holy Angels I dont think can beat them, however I totally believe Stillwater and roseville can. The Roseville game was pretty even and a bounce or 2 changes the outcome. Stillwater I think should have won - and it was a true classic. Dalh was the best player on the ice. EP has better D as it doesnt get better than Lambert and Seeler, but I think Stillwater was deeper overall speed in the F's. Impressive young team.

Is Edina the real deal? Who is the most likely team to beat EP???

I think Edina was playing the best hockey in the state during the holidays. We will see if they still are next week when they play Roseville and BSM.
EP was not playing as good as they can at Kaposia but I thought they were improving and by the Roseville game they were starting to play better. They have a big game Monday afternoon at Eagan, this should be a good game as Eagan played them tougher than anyone last year.

Edina is the real deal. That is for certain. Agreed on RV & SW too - they are scary good when they're on & they usually are - amazing SOS too for all these teams, and that is what makes them legit in my mind.

Prep notes: Edina's success is nothing new

Whatever the sport, Edina teams are doing well this winter.
"This is certainly the most competitive winter sports season we've had so far in the last 15 years," Hornets Athletic Director Steve Dove said. "Again, the season is early. We have not gotten into conference play [in most sports], and our conference is very competitive because of its size."

The Classic Lake has only five schools, so each has to schedule a lot of nonconference games early.

Most have been victories for Edina. The Hornets' hockey and basketball teams are a combined 48-4-3. The girls' hockey team, which has played five conference games, is 16-0-3, the boys' team is 12-1.

In basketball, the girls' team is 11-0 and the boys are 9-3.

The boys' swimming and diving team is rated No. 1 in Class 2A and the Alpine ski teams, which have had only one meet, are expected to be strong, too.

"The talent a school has is cyclical," Dove said, "and we have a lot of quality, multisport athletes.

"And we're lucky, we seem to have a lot of team chemistry. I have not gotten one call from a parent. The kids are enjoying themselves, having fun together."

Dove said all his winter coaches are proven veterans, which helps ensure success as do recent school improvements.

"We've completed a lot of construction, so we have more Hornet pride," Dove said.

The swimmers have a new facility, the Art Downey Aquatic Center, named after their longtime coach. The new fitness center has twice the space as the old one, and the school entrance has had a facelift, too.

Success in athletics is nothing new at Edina, of course. Hornets sports teams have won 123 state titles -- more than double any other state high school -- since 1950-51 when the school opened.

Didnt Edina get a quality transfer too?

How is their goaltending? Are they a defensive team like last year that may win a 2-1 type win for EP?

IMHO their goaltending is solid, and outstanding D as you say. I think that ANY team in the state should fear their challenge...
