When is this guy going to gain a little respect? For the second year in a row he is among the top ten scorers in the state. He is by far the best player in Section 7A and one of the best in Northern Minnesota. He will be a real steal for some USHL team in this years draft.

I agree 100%!! Nate Breden is one of the most overlooked and underrated players in Minnesota. I have watched this kid play and am very impressed with how he has developed into the star that he is now. I would have to agree that it would be a real steal for any USHL team that drafts him.

the reason no one notices Nate is Silver Bay plays such a soft schedule and when they play a tough team like DM, he does squat

Hockeystudent,
You say the words yourself: When will he GAIN respect. You can't force this on people.

Also, do you know how difficult it is to make a USHL team? If he does make that league, he will have gained respect.

Haven't got to see him play. I'm not going to say that he is not good by any means but when you are scoring against teams like Chisholm and Moose Lake that isn't all that hard. Now I would say what a player if he would have had a couple of goals against a good team like DM. SB didn't beat EVG either and from what I seen lastnight if he is such a goal scorer he should have had 10 goals against them. I know he isn't the whole team because it takes a team to beat another team but doesn't he score most of SB's goals?

Actually, scoring against a team like Chisholm, is very difficult, perhaps the most difficult thing in the sport of hockey, if not any sport.

If Nate Breden can score against Chisholm, he's not going to the USHL, he's going to the Vatican!

HHS: Chisholm doesn't have a a team.

I feel he wont get the respect that some people beleive he should because he is overated and I can say that with no hesitation.I saw him a few nights ago in Eveleth where he did nothing more that didly squat! He hops around the ice like a figure skater and falls all over the ice on his own power. Also, with the schedule Silver Bay faces I don't think we will ever see how good he is playing at the level of DC Moose Lake, North Branch, Ely, and Crosby Ironton.

Correction Chisholm had a high school team last year but now they are Junior Gold Team. But when SB did play chisholm last year and he did so awesome against them that's all everyone heard about on this board.

student dude- nate breden the best player 7a??? COME ON dude.. the only reason he is" up there" in the points is cuz he is playing against practically bantam teams.. you have got to put that into perspective, now as for the "best players" in section 7a, look @ nico sachetti( virginia), brendon kapela( hibbing)... i dont think you can call yourself a student if you cant understand that...

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... dhockey at: 12/25/05 12:59 am

WOW.. i was just WAITING for a thread like this to come up...
Breden hasn't done anything.. so what he has a crap load of points, with the schedule that silver bay has, any solid bantam A player could rack up as many points as he has... seriously, this is ridiculous... silver bay puts all the crappy teams into running time etc... when they play GOOD or even QUALITY teams like DM or somewhere along those lines, he doesn't do anything.... after reading these posts, i often find myself rolling on the floor laughing until i cry... thank you for the humor to enlighten my day
there'd be no hockey if the water wasn't FROZEN

It is true that Silver Bay has a weak schedule but I think we also have to look at the fact that Nate does not play on a strong team either. If you're the only player on your team who can compete with a opponent like DM, it is pretty hard to generate any offense at all by yourself. Who you play against is important, but who you have to play with, is, I think, just as important. I think Nate is comparable to Tyler Lehrke from Park Rapids, now with Green Bay of the USHL. Lehrke put up a ton of points against the weak opponents PR usually faced but couldn't do a thing when his team played TRF, EGF, and LOW. The reason: he had no one on his team to help him out, his team was so outclassed he rarely got the puck out of his zone. Pretty hard to do anything in that situation. But now he is doing very well in the top junior league in the U.S., and heading to Bemidji St. on a scholarship this fall.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... student at: 12/25/05 9:19 am

I agree with FROZEN but I just had to get my 2 cents in. We will see how he does in Section playoffs when they roll around. If he is that good lets see him carry the team to state.

i think he might have been that kid.. but yeah frozen, i agree with you, i just dont see this kid being hailed as one of the best players in 7a... like i said in a previous post, all tough schedules and good teammates aside, there are a lot better players than him...yeah he has talent, but not the best in 7a..... sorry for disagreeing with the breden fan club

Nate Breden has the speed and stickhandeling to be able to easily dance around defenders that are not agressive and do not like to hit. This is the majority of the players he does play against. When the game becomes a physical matchup Breden does not shine and actually avoids playing his style when teams attack him at the chest, and becomes obsolete. Untill he begins to help Silver Bay upset some teams, he will always be considered overrated.

Hey, at least he didn't transfer to a different school to gain some exposure. I'll give him credit for that. Although it would've eliminated discussions such as this.

Here's my take on him:
1) He's the best player on his team. I don't think you'll get much of an argument on that.

2) He, and his linemates Luke Taintor and Jordan Sandstrom play a ton of minutes.

3) His team plays the second weakest schedule in section 7A.

4) There is no doubt in my (or many others) mind that he would not have 34 points at this point of the season if he were to play the schedules of any other team in 7A (except Ely).

The question is how many points would he have? The answer can only be speculative. No one will ever really know for sure, because it hasn't and isn't going to happen that way.

I saw him play a few games last year against better teams, and I've seen him play against Eveleth-Gilbert this year. In all the games I saw, only his line was able to generate offense consistently, and he did seem to stand out. He was silent against Duluth Marshall, but one game does not make a season. (Nico Sachetti didn't score against Hermantown, Kapella didn't have a point against Eastview.) He did rack up 2 goals and 3 assists against Two Harbors (6-1) this year. There are hundreds of other players around the state that play schedules like this and they don't rack up the points like he does.

That being said, if put in the same situation, there are several other players in the section who would put up similar - if not better - numbers. Especially because of the amount of ice time he gets and the fact that he doesn't spend nearly as much time in the defensive end as these other forwards in the section.

You do have to account for him on the ice though and he will burn you if you let him. And if he were not on the team, the Mariners could easily be 3-6 instead of 6-3, so he is a difference maker. I would say he's among the top 10 - 15 forwards in 7A, but probably in the lower half of that group.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... kRanger at: 12/26/05 2:10 am
