USA Hockey player fee increase

Post by elliott70 »

USA Hockey just passed a player increase of $5.

Next hockey season the indivdual player fee will be $30.

In return, they will eliminate the Team Membership application form and the related $20 fee. They will also not charge local associations for D&O insurance. This became mandatory through USA Hockey this season. They are also considering providing a crime insurance. The proposed increae came up in January and was tabled for one month.

From where I sit this is very disturbing.

Break away from USA hockey.

I have heard this would be happening. I would rather see, this hurts to say, see the money go to MNHOCKEY. I don't always see eye to eye with the MNHOCKEY board, they have a great thing going, and yes, make the program better for all.

I am tired of seeing kids fees that are sent to USA Hockey cover up there non-hockey related problems of some individuals. I am aware that we pay for an insurance policy ( worthless), use of there rule book, and other USA hockey non-profit funding that less than x % of Minnesota kids will benefit from the increased fee. Increase the fee, other costs will continue to rise, and eventually we will see a decrease in participation....

Fee's

Post by Sticklicker »

An increase in fees by MN Hockey would be understandable but USA hockey? My daughter just got her Insurance card from US hockey in the mail last week. Helloooooo. The season is almost over. She gets benched if she is late to practice but US Hockey can drag their feet and give us little in return (except that nice magazine <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... tongue.gif ALT=":p"> ) and they want more money? I think we know what is best for our kids and we can spend the money more wisely on a local level. I declare war on US hockey.

USA Hockey

Post by OsseoGuy123 »

Ummmmmm they run everything so the entire country is all playing with the same set of rules and guidelines. They hold national tourneys at the end of the year. They do tons of things behind the sceens that have to be done to have hockey work the way it does. Is there things about them that they could change, yes, but overall I think they do a good job. What do you want out of them? You have to have something at the top, its not like kids are paying $200 a year or anything......its $30. Get over it.

Rule book and guidelines. This could be created by MNHOCKEY.

National tournaments - MNHOCKEY does not take part in.

A magazine - I'll take the Minnesota Hockey Journal any day.

Behind the scenes - funding a national development team or camp, funds for TEAM USA, which is a great honor to play for your country, spending funds on the elite players. Salaries of the president and executive director. Unfortunately, I have no current proof as to there salaries but I will do some research on USA Hockey. (Other issues that will not be discussed).

$5 is not the issue. The issue is that the hockey in the districts throughout the US has nothing to do with the board in Colorado Springs. They set up a rulebook and a guidelines to follow, districts can change as they see fit (elliot 70 if I'm off base, help for clarification in regards to changes). If its insurance - I know several local insurance agents that will take this job. Funds for the elite players? The focus should be on development of all players not just a select fee.

And I know, life is not fair.

The real question is why are they needed? I have read numerous articles about the structure in MNHOCKEY and that this state could be self sufficient. Congrats to the individuals that made this achievement in our great state of hockey. I will be the first to admit, I did not personally like a lot of them but there contribution and energy into sport is well commended.

MNHOCKEY is at the top. $30.00 today, $200.00 in years to come. If I recall, there where statements made that USA Hockey looks to MNHOCKEY as a role model.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... troll21 at: 2/24/05 11:04 am

For example sake only..... if there is one gas station on the corner in a small town the gas will always be higher than if there were 2 or more. Competition is the answer, usa hockey has nobody to compete with. Granted they do a fine job in some areas but not enough to charge the fee's they do for a bogus insurance policy that is always last to pay out and even without other insurance its difficult to get them to pay their fair share. I have a simple idea of how to compete, but the more involved the better the plan. I say its about time we look into it.

Why leave USA Hockey:

USA Hockey had $22,562,510 in revenues for the year 2004 (Funds from registration fees and dues 76.27%, corporate sponsors7.35%, grants7.62%, tournaments7.01%, advertising and NHL 1.51%) No money from USA Hockey foundation grant? Unsure where this money comes from.

Expenses:
Member services (assume insurance)$6,144,812
Inline Hockey $2,073,785
National development team $2,056,910
International programs $1,883,604
Internet $558,749
Player Development $1,061,158
Officials $1,257,237
Coaching $1,283,435
Junior Program $400,528
Adult program $620,873
Annual congress/winter meetings $683,865
Youth program $337,689

General and administrative $3,204,356
Marketing $682,317

Total expenses $22,249,318

Balance $313,192

(Source: USA WEBSITE, Statements of Unrestricted Revenues and Expenses, August 31, 2004)

By looking at the numbers, its clear where the funds are spent and what a priority is for USA Hockey. More money is spent on meetings, salaries, International and National teams, INTERNET but only spend $337,689 on the kids that generate the majority of the fees. This is a huge concern.

No bad intentions to inline hockey but does a league or associations exist in Minnesota?

Bringing this back up to have parents made aware of what and where the funds paid to USA Hockey are going.
