farmer...don't call the gatekeeper yet. this threads getting interesting. gunslinger has a point...this ain't the nfl where $ money dictates player movement. and speaking of drew, who was the aha player that covered him like a blanket effectively neutalizing him most of the game? now that's damn good (aha)coaching.

Fisher

Here are the facts:

Fisher left Moorhead for Indiana on Monday

He is coming back to Moorhead for the hockey banquet and then will only be back for graduation

He is doing what most other good hockey players to when state is done, jump on a USHL team, except he has done exceptionaly well in school and can graduate early

Well if thats the case, I really have no problem with it. Many kids go to the USHL before and after the highschool hockey season. If he were to go back to IF and graduate, like previously mentioned, I would really have no respect for him. From what I hear on here hes a good kid, let it go.
Go Buffs

Fisher

Post by old time hockey »

I think people need to look at the big picture before hacking on the kid. Fisher didn't leave IF for just exposure. He left for reasons besides that:

1) prettyman = poor coach
2) bahr = head case/coach's pet
3) broncos = worst team in school history in 04-05
4) sources say he would have played D there when he is such a natural forward

He left for those reasons more so than for the coaching at MHD, playing with great players, and playing for one of Moorhead's best teams in school history (although i'm sure they had a lot to do with it). comparing the two is obviously night and day.

Also, the will to play at a higher level, move on to the USHL at Indiana, and eventually go D-1. An exceptional move on Fisher's part and he's lucky to have the support of his family and friends on making such a wise choice.

If you look back at the original question, it was not about why he left...... it was about if he was going back to IF to graduate... If that would have been the case, then people would have the right to question his intentions....

-The Slinger

Last reply, your way off base, on all 4 of your comments.
1. Prettyman is not a bad coach, he actually knows the game very well. I will agree, some of his practices could use some fine tuning, and direction towards better team play, but he does know how to coach.

2. The Bahr situation; These two have been rivals, and to be honest, in a negative way, with petty jealousies, but this made both to become better players. The Bahr kid is a parents wet...., and a truly remarkable kid, both in Athletics and Academics. Rumors flew around about Bahr being on the C.C.M. All Star team last year, because Prettyman put him on the team because his daughter happens to date him, are rediculous, and this caused some hard feelings in the Fisher Camp. Funny, Bahr didnt make it this year, so Prettyman must have lost his connection.

3. The team did struggle, no question. But I watched last year, as Drew played every other shift, PP, PK, playing approximately 10 minutes every period, while, a 3rd line, made up of all sophomores at the time, that could have developed, sat on the bench for most every game, giving way, to a player that they didn't know would be leaving them the upcoming year. If you watched the Broncos at all this year, they played 3 lines throughout the game, so Prettyman did learn a lesson. This team lacked alot of confusion, talent and most important, Confidence.

4. Drew being moved to Defense, wouldn't have happened. However, he is not a natural forward, I will argue with anyone about that. He played De as a Sophomore, and Prettyman then moved him up to forward with Bahr and Cramer last year. In my opinion, he should have stayed at De, I have said that in a few of my threads. Good forwards are a dime a dozen, but give me a 6' 4" Defenseman, with good hands and some hockey sense, I'll take him!!

One last note: A little piece of irony. Did anyone read Brian Lee's quotes after being named Mr. Hockey?
Kind of went something like this:
It was a pleasure playing with players like Matt Becker, Jon Ammerman, Corey Loos and "Derek" Fisher, and it's unfortunate, because if they played at OTHER schools, they would have gotten more EXPOSURE. "Quote, unquote."
Now as we all remember, the reason Drew went to Moorhead, was for the added exposure, well it looks like he got it.
In closing, he is a great kid and very good hockey player. And I have waited on saying this for a while....he got some bad advice, and it is International Falls that helped Drew become a good player, and it is that same town, that he was scouted at, while the likes of Ben Gordon, Ross Johnson and Josh Meyers played before him, and brought in the scouts to check on these players, that helped Drew's own exposure. I just wish that he would have reciprocated what the Falls Program has done for many years.; You come to watch the Senior class, and WOW, look at these Juniors and Soph's, and the cycle continues. And to P.G. and N.S. shame on the both of you.

Hey toold2tell yes, JP is a good coach and knows the game but I was just wondering how you figure how his coaching needs fine tuning, yes every coach isn't the best and personally i think Bahr was good enough to make that CCM All Star team without Jp's help. Yes, I did watch many of the Bronco games this year and i think JP played three steady lines because he knew the team wasn't strong so he wanted to give all the kids a chance at playing Varsity plus their JV team had only six skaters in the third period and that's including 1 old tender and 2 managers. Yes, having a bad team this year shows them a lot of lessons and what they need.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... 15>1615 at: 3/10/05 5:56 pm

yes, JP knows the game - of the 60's. it's 2005 now and time to move on. the game has changed. the kids up in IF do nothing all summer and sit there during the regular season and feel sorry for themselves (along with prettyman). he needs to quit talking to his players like they are his 5th grade students. IF needs a new head coach and keep JP as an assistant. he is not meant to be a leader.

as for bahr, he didn't deserve to be in last year's ccm game, let alone this years. hes not a bad player, theres just way better players out there that deserve this honor over him. modich, and brock and casey harling to name a few for last year's group.
