Any association out there have free or even a reduced fee if you are a goalie?

Thought I heard Elk River does.. just wondering if anyone else is doing this?

Ours is the same except they will not pick up skates, helmet, stick, breezers, leg pads, chest pads, arm pads, blocker or catching gloves and athletic supporters. Other than the full fees and that minimal equipment it's a great deal. The sox are awesome.

At the traveling levels, ours charges same registration fee for goalies. Charges an additional $500.00 for goalie training. No ice bills or other fees. Total cost for a goalie is a little over half the cost of a skater. They do not provide any gear though.

At the mite level everyone pays the same and gear is passed around.

I always find that arguement funny. I wish my forward got to play half of the games all game long.... at 3 lines you get to play 1/3 of the games... must be goalie mentality but I don't get how you complain about ice time as a goalie.

The best is talking to the goalie's dad and listening to him complain about all the shots the team is giving up, and how they need to play better defense, etc. I simply reply he's getting his money's worth.

And even more fun is listening to the parents blame the goalie for giving up a goal on the third rebound to lose 3-2 in a game that the team was outshot 54-12. Especially when their little superstar can't ever seem to find the defensive zone. But he is banging his stick on the ice in the neutral zone to let everyone know he is waiting for them to get the puck to him.

This always seems to be an interesting topic... Parents don't want their kids to play goalie because they want them to be Johnny Superstar... I hear it all the time in the arena. If you take a step back and listen, these parents are forcing their kids out of playing a position they are generally begging to play. Goalie is not for all people, but those who are eager to get in the net often will be the best goalies. The kids who aren't cut out for it are usually deterred after they see the first shot or two. Kids need to learn for themselves where they best fit on the ice. A kid who has a passion for scoring is usually the best scorer. A kid who has a passion for stopping the puck is usually the best goalie.

On the cost note... Anoka offers free registration and free goalie equipment at all levels. They have seen great success with goalie numbers often sending their extras to nearby cities. This also shows in the level of talent as it is much more competitive at the position for every spot top to bottom. I believe they have a goalie participating in each level of the Advanced 15/16/17 process. Although I could be wrong. They stopped this program briefly and saw a huge drop in both numbers and talent at the position.

We have them pay full like everyone else.

We provide equipment reimbursement up to $400 per year. We also provide outside training with an approved vendor up to $400 per year.

As a goalie dad, this setup made the most sense as some goalies may want pads that are more for standup/hybrid, while others may want full butterfly. Up to them to choose their equipment. When they are moving on to the next set of pads, etc., they are free to sell the old set and use that money on equipment (or, in essence, lower their dues).

Every year we have one or two goalie parents that just want us to drop their second half payment rather than doing outside training for the $400. We want our goalies to train....if they don't, no reimbursement.
