Goaltending, 2005-2006 Season

So, what is goaltending going to look like for next year's season? As of now, I can't think of many dominate goalies out there. Will anyone be capable of putting up seasons like Kangas or even Lundin? <br><br>Thoughts, comments would be greatly appreciated. <p></p><i></i>

Smith from AHA should have a great season. He has improved every year at AHA and playing in the Missota conference, his numbers should be great. He could help AHA win another State championship next year for sure, and maybe go D1 if he plays really well. <p>AHA 2002 & 2005 State Champions!<br></p><i></i>

Must agree. With the conference he's in, his numbers could look pretty good. Who else though? I really can't think of many other goalies that will post save %'s around .925 and higher.... <p></p><i></i>

Kangas was a senior this year.<br><br>WBL's Faust, I just can't say he'll be one of the dominate ones next year. Is a decent goalie? Sure he is. But look at the team and defense he has in front of him. Him winning Metro Goalie of the Year for Pioneer Press IMO was a joke. His save % was .91 which is alright, but it could have been better (especially with those defenders in front of him). <p></p><i>Edited by: <A HREF=http://p074.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... Cary Wood, Tartan- He'll have to put his team on his back for them to win even 15 or 16 games.<br><br>Austin Lee, Jefferson- Best stats in the metro this year, and he plays in the Lake Conference, thats pretty impressive. Like Wood, he'll have to carry his team more next year though. <p></p><i></i>

Yeah, I sure enjoyed seeing Kangas in the state tournament. It's a shame he didn't win the Goalie of the Year (Frank Brimsek) Award. <p></p><i></i>

And I sure hope you deserved it (I'm sure you did Josh). Kangas really should have had it though. He had some very strong numbers this season. <p></p><i></i>

gotpuck- you sound like your a 5 year old. CCCCHHOOOOOKKKEEE! I dont blame Austin for being nervous. He is a good goalie and if you think otherwise you are crazy. Just because he didnt play his best during the state tournament does not mean he isn't a good goalie. You take way too much pride in your team and dont have respect for anyone else. Yes, your team is #1 in the state but that's this year. Next year may be a whole different story. <br><br>OK so I got a little carried away with that but that post made me angry. <p></p><i></i>

and not to dwell on the topic too much, but to my knowledge austin lee didnt win very many TOUGH games, i know jefferson lost to wb 5-2 and moorhead 3-1... those are the kind of games that make a player, and then of course in state, 3 goals against vs aha, 4 against vs ER and 5 against vs WB. <br><br>that is my basis for the statement i made about him. agree or not ... the logic is there <p></p><i></i>

my response to that is: i think austin was the most overrated goalie inthe tournement possibly... i know that is kind of controversial, but think about it... he was thought of as one of the 3 best goalies in MN... but he just could not get it done against tough teams <p></p><i></i>

Under gotpucks definition of "choked" (which I agree with for the most part for the goalie position), I'd say the Moorhead goaltenders "choked" this year, along with Faust of WBL. <br><br>Choked is a harsh word, and those goalies were more under the microscope since they played in the state tournament, but those are the ones that didnt live up to their hype. <p></p><i></i>

Next year section 7AA will be lead by Goldsmith and Ellingson. Ellingson will have the lowest GAA for returning goalies in this section and will be enering his 3rd year between the pipes for the lumberjacks. Goldsmith lead the section for Save percentage last year and will be entering his 5th year at the varsity level. Also if you want to talk about coming up big in pressure situations, just ask Grand Rapids about him.<br><br>A sleeper for this section will be Wichello. He will be in his 3rd or 4th year at the varsity level and last year made select 17 for section 7. <p></p><i></i>

tough teams all year... not quite... jefferson blew out alot of their opponents, lee had a pretty good team playin in front of him. and i dont know how many times i can say this... but he could not get it done against the REAL tough teams... and thats really all that matters for the most part <p></p><i></i>

moorheads goalies might have choked under any defination of the word... i mean 6 goals on 18 shots in the championship... thats a major choke i think <p></p><i></i>

1 was an empty netter and only 1 of the other 5 you could say either one really should have stopped. (Barriball's wrist shot from the top of the circle). But yes they sure didnt come up big and I agree. Lee, Faust, and both Moorhead goalies underachieved or choked whichever you want to call it. <p></p><i></i>

lets see.. you could say all of the goalies in the state tournament "choked" except keaton smith. i agree, choked is a strong word cause losing 3-2 to the state championship team isnt that bad. Austin is a good player, despite the talent he had on defense and offense as well. You can say Smith is better than Lee, but we can't forget about the AHA loss 9-3 to Centennial. I dont believe Jefferson lost a game quite like that one. Everyone has bad games, and yes Austin had a few more than we would have liked, but that's just how the game is played. I congratulate all the goalies in the tournament just for making it that far. <p></p><i></i>
