what ever happened to "win as a team, lose as a team"? Maybe it wasn't just the goalie's and defense's fault? maybe the offense didn't backcheck or do their jobs in the defensive zone? i wasn't there, so maybe i'm wrong. but when a team loses, they do just that. they lose as a team.

the other games tonight (west vs. waseca, faribault vs. JM, St. Peter vs. East) really shouldn't be close so... any predictions on the austin and new ulm game?

what ever happened to "win as a team, lose as a team"?

Does the team or the individual make the ill-advised, telegraphed, cross ice pass(es) in the neutral zone that get picked off and end up in the net?

Is it the team or the individuals when both defensive players chase the puck carrier on a 2 on 2?

Is it the team or the goalie when the goalie is caught leaning right when the puck carrier is to the left?

These are all examples of individual mistakes in a team game. I don't think it's out of the ordinary to have individual mistakes in a team sport.
Does the individual get credit for the goal, assist or save in a team sport?

Besides we all know that players win, coaches lose

Got to stand by my earlier prediction...to bad for me it's not in Austin, I'd like to see that game.
Austin 4
New Ulm 3

you have a valid point, RSI, maybe the coach needs to cover those areas a little better in practice. just curious, what did west's defense look like? were they as strong as last year?

the austin-new ulm game got cancelled tonight because new ulm cancelled school there. too bad, i was looking forward to seeing the outcome. it's interesting, because new ulm has a good record, but they play in a weak conference. austin could surprise them. then again, maybe they're ready for the challenge...

That's one of the things that get me about the girls program here. They can all skate, but that doesn't make them hockey players. Small, simple things they SHOULD know before they get to the HS program. i.e. how to correctly make and receive a pass (no slapping the puck).

I thought West looked good defensively. I especially liked the play of Amber Ostoff #9, I thought she was very good.

I don't think Austin is going to surprise NU...

Everyone knows that it is ALWAYS the goalie's fault... :D :D

PS---AL's forwards were no good against West Tuesday either...

T,
I was trying to give examples of the bad mistakes by everyone including the forwards. The first one was mistake by the forwards, second was by the "D" and the 3rd was the goalie. I didn't make it clear, sorry.

That game for AL was only marginally better than the first game of the year against Northfield. Lots of similarities.

Also, in the second period the coaches were having to deal with a player who was being "disrespectful" toward them. I think it had something to do with one of those bad cross ice passes, not sure. That too might of had a little to do with the meltdown. All around a bad game for AL, I thought it should/could have been a much closer game. I think that's the battle for the 3rd seed at Sections. It's early, but so far I see it like this..
1. Austin
2. Faribo
3. West
4. AL

Hey RSI---I think you nailed the seeds...

I was not trying to be confrontational either, and felt the same way you did about both the Northfield and West games.

austin beat mankato east 11-1. it was a very slow start for austin, only leading 2-1 after the first, but they picked it up in the 2nd and 3rd.

lakeville south beat fairmont 9-0. didn't actually see that one.

blaine beat albert lea 5-2. this was a very surprising game. albert lea was only down 2-3 after two periods. they gave blaine a really tough time. blaine's strength is almost all in their goalie, supposedly the best goalie in the state, but has weak spots nevertheless. blaine finally pulled away in the third, but it was a decently close game.

don't know about the northfield/novas game. i'm betting on the novas.

novas beat northfield 4 - 2.

should be a good game between austin and lakeville south.. we will really see what austin is about at this point of the season. not sure how they will do lv is alot better than the comp that they both played today..

note: blaine looked good.. very fast.. especially # 33.. did their golaie commit to somehwhere?? just rumor i heard..

Funny stories about the AL/Blaine game...

All the AL girls have been hearing for the past week is how good a goaltender Blaine has in Ashley Nixon. Very bad news for Albert Lea since they struggle to score anyway. On my way to the game I get a text message from my daughter saying Ashley Nixon forgot her skates, she's all pumped up and I suppose she figures now they won't have to face the best goalie in Minnesota. Turns out Ashley borrows the backup goalies skates and still plays and makes some terrific saves.

End of the first, the timekeeper forgets to start the clock with 36 seconds remaining...Not sure how long it was not running, seemed like 3 minutes, probably like 20-30 seconds. In that "extra" time Blaine gets 2 goals and posts a 3-1 first peiod lead.

as for the 11-1, did you notice how the packers are now 11-1 on the season? maybe it was a little joke. besides, it's not 16-1, is it?

the timekeeper incident was unfortunate. but it got to albert lea on the ice. you could see that. they got distracted and blaine was able to skate circles around them at that point. if they just would have stayed focused and grabbed the puck and iced it, it would have been fine. but the timekeeper should have started the clock in the first place.

Focus would have been nice. As for just icing it, way too often there isn't enough strength in their sticks to shoot it the whole length of the ice. That and being tired has cost them more than a couple time this season. The second goal hurt the most, Blaine seemed to just take the face off and go staight down and score.

late goals always make it tough to come back.

update

austin beat lakeville south 5-1. very good game for austin. blaine beat the novas 4-0. the novas didn't test nixon that much though. i've heard that austin has been scouting blaine and their goalie pretty hard, and they've found some weak spots. it should be a really good game. blaine looks excellent defensively, and austin has a great offense, when they're "on".

Against AL, Blaine seemed to be "off" a split second on their one timers and other set plays...

If they are "on", I do not think Austin has a chance. Sorry pete...

BOLD prediction...
Austin 5 Blaine 2

AL vs. Blaine

Correct me if i'm wrong but aren't officials supposed to stop play if there is any sort of problem with the clock? And then for them to say that they were counting down and put 17 seconds up? 3-1 is a lot different than 1-1 or even 2-1. It was an unfortunate event and I hope that I never see anything like it again.

I predicted AL would win, but while I fully expected Blaine to win, I did not expect a 7-0 embarassment/blowout victory...guess Blaine was "on" tonite.

Wish I had stayed to watch... :?

Did it get to "running time"? :)

I guess it went to run time with one minute left. Austin's 3rd line got to play and let in two goals towards the end. I heard the first two periods were really good but Blaine's PP was to strong and scored 3 of the first 4 goals.
Bottom line is Albert Lea lost by 2 goals to Blaine and Austin lost by 7 so Albert lea will win it all. Except of course they can not get by us. Go Falcons.
