I don't think Marvin will ever make it to the NHL, yes he's drafted but that doesn't mean anything, and if he does, that team must be very desperate. He wouldn't stand out in juniors, maybe high school, but not juniors. I think there's a lot of hype about him but I just don't see him as a future NHLer.

What do you think are the flaws in his game and have you seen him play enough to make a prediction like that. I don't think i can say whether he will playin the NHL yet, i have seen him play enough, but you never know how much the kid will develope in the next couple years. I don't think he is as talented as a lot of people say, and his skating will hinder him at the next levels, but with his size and down low game I don't think you can rule out the NHL quite yet

I don't think that a lot of people had Wyatt Smith slated to do much for the Gophers while he was still in high school, much less go to the NHL. He was able to change his game and become much more physical when he was with the Gophers. That enabled him to become a star with the Gophs and now he is making good money in the NHL, no, he isn't an all star and never will be, but he's making an NHL salary. Anyway, moral of the story, it is very hard to say that some high schooler will or will not make it to the NHL, they still have a lot of time to develop, and change their game and it can go both ways...ie Dave Spehar.

Good point on Wyatt my man. You can add Jason Blake to that list. As a junior he was a good player on a good team, all 5-8 145lbs of him. As a senior he was a pretty good player on a pretty good team. He goes to the CCHA (the WCHA's stepchild) and disappears for a while, later he emerges as a transfer at ND. Since, he has only gone on to play 8 full seasons in the NHL and score 250pts in about 450 games.

Jared Echternach, Bill Lund, Chris Gotzamain, Shaun Pomplun, Ted Heppner, Cory Howe, John Seaverson, Jason Bies, Andy Brink, Ryan Kraft, Joe Nosan, Ryan Kappes, Markus Taeck, and Brad Dwyer comprise the beginning of a list of Blake's Section 8 contemporaries that you would have picked before him in a game at your local outdoor rink.

THat is what i was trying to say, a lot of the players that are thought of as top highschool talent have a lot of developing left. You said it perfectly, they can goeither way, and let us also remember how much the game itself changes at the next level, not just the competition but the way it is played.

If we are talking D-men then Clark for sure, Benadict as well, both very solid defensemen.

Blake knew where he was headed back in high school!

He tied the state tournament record against Blaine when he scored 7 seconds into the game!

He was a star at UND and he had a lot to do with Moorhead getting to state in '92!

Some folks didn't want to see him get there but he never worried about them!

He's a perfect example of what's in the heart!

He was born to play the game and he knew it!

He would have been the first pick on my pond everytime over Kraft, Arnold, or Gramer or anybody else!

Yeah, but I'd take Kraft, Arnold, or Gramer or any of the others over Turene any day! Image
