East and Cloquet aren't having their best years so I think this will be a pretty even matchup and a good game

2 losses constitutes not having their best years!!!! You evidently didn't see the East losses to top 10 teams, East played right with both teams and lost close ones, I don't believe everyone thinks they are having a bad year! I don't know who Cloquet has played, except they lost a game to some bad team in Minneaplis. Don't assume anything after 4 games, that's just dumb quit reading the other dumb assumptions and watch them play before you comment

I recall an East team not too long ago starting the season 3-8-4; they turned it around, winning 11 of their next 13 games and ended up down in St. Paul. So a 2-2 start obviously doesn't concern me. Even if they lost to Cloquet on Thursday and then Moorhead on Saturday, they'll be 2-4 against some pretty darn good competition.

People rush to judgement because they don't take the time to look at an issue. How else could it be?

A team's record might not look that good at the start of the season when 10 of their first 11 games are against top 20 teams. Think about that...East plays half of the best teams in the state in December. Even last year, they started 5-5-1, which looks mediocre on paper. But when the losses are to Cloquet, Moorhead, Roseville, Centennial, and Anoka...that's pretty impressive. After that, East went 13-1-1 (the one loss coming in the section semifinals). No one at East is that worried about these early season losses; they're common occurrances.

The point is, it's impossible to say East is having a down year after 4 games, and still is hard to say that after 11. You have to look at how they've played the games, especially the losses. And East's losses have been very "good" losses.

The records can be thrown out the window in a rivalry game anyway. I'm leaving Duluth 3 hours before the game to get a seat (or rather, a spot to stand, wedged against 5 other people in awkward positions) in the miniscule student section.

If you've ever played hockey you'd know that there is no such thing as a "good loss". a loss is a loss.

I'm gonna say cloquet 4-2 with and open-netter

Not true at all. When Grand Rapids went to Edina two years ago and lost very close games with Edina and Eden Prairie...those were good loses. It gave the team confidence and they ended up in a state title game.

East dominated the 3rd. Shot 34-19 in favor of East. Solid play in goal for Cloquet.

Once again, East outshoots an opponent by a lot...and loses. It's a trend I'm not liking much at all. They could have had more too, probably; I was getting frustrated with how long they were holding the puck, passing back and forth from point to point, at times. I'll give a lot of credit to Aaron Baker and the Cloquet D for keeping the Greyhounds down. Jokinen, meanwhile, put the Jacks' offense on his shoulders and displayed an ability to bury the puck that no current East players seem to have. That was probably the difference in this game.

I guess Cloquet is better than I thought...Anoka tried to arrange a regular season game with them when they were switched to 7AA, Anoka got one scheduled with GR for January, but it didn't work out with Cloquet.

In any event, congrats to the Jacks on the big win.

A goalie of Ben Leis's ability is hard to come by for any team...East had a nice situation the past 2 years with Ben between the pipes...but the new goalies will gain experience in time. I expect East to bounce back and win their re-match with Cloquet later this year.

Good god boblee, good "loses"? You never talked like that when you lived in Rapids! Here's a shot of boblee and his dormates. (he's the "ball")

Well, yeah. Everyone knows we whine better than that when it's actually time to whine. Image
