I've heard rumors that he's considering opening a Shattuck style hockey school... if so that would be interesting.

Here is more : The rumor I heard is that Dave Snuggeruud is going to be the dean. I don't know where the school goes. I was told above....above what ? If they start a 3rd - 8th does Minnhock let them compete as a association? A few months ago you could click on a link to the school via the mnmade webite. I am not sure about that anymore.

A neighbor of mine said has a kid in the mite league. He likes it, he said two weeks the choice mite parents are too hear about the upcoming squirt league. That maybe the start of the school. The question is whom does the education...a critical part for say 2 of the 17 on the team that don/t make it too the NHL...

I could care less about any of the other stuff mentioned, however Dave Snuggerud is a teacher by profession in the Wayzata School District

I could careless about the stuff mentioned. But I feel the need chime in.

When the school opens up. Once again. Either send your child to Minnesota made. Or choose to send them to the school that best fits the families needs.
I can hear it now. Everyone will be ripping on something they have no idea about.
I'm still trying to figure out why some people are so worried about where other Mite aged kids are skating? I wonder if I should ask everyone what kind of stick, skates, helmets all the kids are using. I might want them to use a different brand.

The others were schools who started playing hockey. Education was teh first priority.
This seems to be different, perhaps I am wrong since I know nothing about it. but if it is a hockey program building a school around it, that seems odd and therefore, by definition, will draw more scrutiny.

I have heard rumors about the schools and have talked do Snuggy about it a little. I think that the board of education might take a look at this. I would assume that it would be consider home-schooling? I think that when school revolves around hockey we have gone way to far. I can't imagin that there is another sport where kids would go to a school like this. Anyone know of any?

Shattuck-St Mary's was a fine private school for many, many years before hcokey came on the scene. Yes, hockey gave it notoriety and perhaps saved it as an educational institution (at least as far as secondary goes), but it was a school set out to provide an education and post-secondarry opportunities.

School built first and then an ice arena.

from what I know of bernie, school will be (maybe not first) but very important and will need to be if he wants it to work as part of his business plan he will make sure the education is top notch and will probably have a ton of people from around the world interested in it.

I would only be guessing but would be classified as a charter school of some sort.

And as elliot stated it was first started as a private school. It is also working to become a soccer academy program modeled after the hockey program.

I would imagine that kids that play teir one hockey like the fire and other towns around would like to have the kids study as a team and have a school that understands the travel issues I think the kids that play for the fire probably have difficulty in keeping up with the school work when they are gone and would love to see somthing a little more like this

Schools, Just of the top of my head you have the Excellance Academy in Alberta and IMG in Florida. There are a bunch.

Maybe he should branch out to Hudson and join Wisconsin Hockey. Then he could field teams that play in the league that the Fire plays in.

That way he could have teams play in MN tournaments (like the Fire do).

His son plays for the Badgers and that may help him draw a lot of WI talent too.

having seen the results of Minnesota Made first hand,having played against/with many of his "students",i can honestly cast a yes vote for Bernie. His kids seem to work so much harder,have a better rink sense,understand the game so much better,why wouldn`t he be an asset to Minnesota Hockey? Heck i wish more of our northern suburb kids would have used him... Would have made our team a heck of a lot better. When your taught to bust your a$$ and use your head and play "team" hockey it makes the game a whole lot easier.

I disagree. I think you can be required to work harder than you normally would, but you can't be taught a work ethic. You can be shown a work ethic. I think a kid either has the work ethic gene or does not. Some players don't discover it until their teenage years.

tomAss, I think you are splitting hairs on this one. Being shown a work ethic and being taught a work ethic is virtually the same thing. I think the "work ethic" you are referring to is really the kids desire. If they want something they will work harder for it.

correct and desire can not be taught

That is correct grasshopper, while desire cannot be taught, it can be learned

how can it be learned? ???

Was he a former coach somewhere or did he just have the desire to develop a program that would identify talent and develop it through repetition and hard work. I am impressed with the discipline these kids have at such a young age. Does anybody really know the real story of Bernie McBain?
