Face it we all know the reason why Maple Grove hasn't and will not make it to the State Tournament...
Coaching
You take the lead with just over 6 min to go and you immediately throw out your third line and guess who scores? Michael Brodzinski...
I don't know how many times the lines were mismatched in Blaine's favor throughout the game.
The headline should read...Coach Aus out coaches Stefano again!!!
This again is a crazy post. Blaine won the game because Nick Malvin was amazing period.
Well that's why they call it a forum and I'm entitled to my opinion!!!

It is crazy how many very good players have gone through the mg program and they've never gone to state. At some point I'd imagine the coach has to get the heat. Is he under pressure or is it his job as long a's he wants it?

I thought Blaine looked terrible. They seemed to have bricks in their skates most of the night. Missed a vast majority of their passes. Lacked hustle. Got outshot by a HUGE margin. And to me, looked tired and out of shape in comparison to the Maple Grove team.
I'm totally convinced that the only reason they won was Malvin's goaltending.
I was cheering for Blaine. But I actually felt that the Crimson deserved to win this one. The whole team worked very hard and played well.
In the end though, I think it was that weak 2nd goal that Coyne let in that lost this game. If it weren't for that, they might have won.
Congrats to the Bengals and Malvin though. They had a great season and still deserve to be in the Tournament. I just hope the rest of the team comes to play next game so Malvin won't have to work as hard.

Tough loss tonight for the Crimson. They took it to the Bengals for 3 periods, but just came up short. Coyne, who I've seen play a few times this year seemed a bit shaky in the huge pressure situation. The 2nd Bengals goal was a real softy, and a must save in this big a game.
Malvin was the obvious difference. He turned away so many good chances, and was fortunate that at least 3 clanked off the pipe... The Brodzinksi's as well were factors in every goal, and are going to have to be big again if Blaine's going to have any chance to get out of the quarterfinals.
A fine season though for the Crimson, great crowd, fantastic student section, but it apparently just wasn't meant to be. I really enjoyed watching them play this season, and I hope they are more fortunate next season!

It's not the coach. On the way to the game last night I told my wife, that I didn't like the goaltending matchup, knowing how good Malvin is. It proved to be true. Going back a few years, the MG classes of 2004 and 2005 lost 5 top players to private school recruiting that likely would have put them over the top.

What players that have gone through the MG program played beyond HS? Probably only a handfull.

Don't know enough about MG's coach to offer an opinion, but have learned over the years not to bet against Coach Aus during tournament time. He seems to have a knack for getting the most out of his teams at the end of the season.

I knew Blaine was going to tie it up once the coach put out MG's 3rd line up against Blaine's 1st/2nd line after the goal. I mean really.......The shift after a goal is the most important shift of the game.
On another note...Blaine was completely overmatched by Maple Grove. It's a shame 5AA isn't represented by Maple Grove. Blaine will go two and out and continue to fail at getting to the championship game. Coach Aus is not a classy guy either. I bet his own cousin wished he lost this game.

Oh that really hurts a lot IMO
Next time read my post thoroughly before you make ridiculous assumptions ok???
Not once did I mention that the MG loss was due to coaching. I was just giving my opinion that Stefano was out coached. It happens in all sports from High School, College and to the Pros.
My first sentence stated why they lost. Team defense and goal tending period.
Feel free to send me a PM so we do not continue to waste anymore space with your narrow minded assumptions.

It's too bad Coyne had a bad game in the biggest game of the season. This was only the second time I'd seen him but I had heard so much about him, that I certainly expected more, and I would guess that if Blaine played MG 10 times, Coyne would stand on his head in seven of them, as would Malvin, and the games would finish 5-5 or 6-4. Coyne's performance in this game shouldn't define his season nor his career. The starting 5 were on the ice for Centennial's first three goals on Tuesday, and the starting forwards were on the ice for at least the first Blaine goal, stopped keeping track after that. I wonder if there's something there. Maybe Stefano (a good coach and classy guy, who may or may not have been outcoached in this game but doesn't get outcoached often) was looking at a stat like that and didn't want to leave his second line out on the ice. There's usually more to the decision-making process than we can see or know from the stands. You don't get that often without having talent and coaching, and I think Maple Grove obviously had both.
6 times in a row shows... something...

6 trips in a row? Something is being done right at Blaine, like it or not. It is, and has been a very strong and competetive section.... Blaine, Centennial, Osseo, Maple Grove, Anoka at times, and Elk River before being realigned. Again, 6 times in a row...? It's no fluke. Competition will be very stiff...if not stifling in St. Paul though.

I don't know much about Stefano so I won't say he was outcoached, but it seems Aus gets the most out of his teams, and gets them ready to play big games. Blaine was hanging on for dear life that 3rd period and caught a few breaks. Good luck at state Bengals!
