As one who was seemingly questioning Cammarata earlier I would like to say that I also expect him to be quite productive in college for the next three years - my doubts are only over how his game will translate to the NHL level given his obvious limitations.

Cammy will end up putting up some nice numbers in his college career. I still doubt whether he ever plays a game in the NHL. Not to take anything away from him (as he does have some outstanding offensive skills) but he has benefited largely the last few years playing with Kloos (waterloo and U) and also Zach Stepan in Waterloo.

I disagree on your take on how he has largely benefited from others. For instance, he lead Waterloo in scoring as a 16 year old the year before either Kloos or Stepan even showed up there (tallying 69 pts. in 60 games). That's pretty damn good as a 16 year old. The next closest player on his team was 25 points behind so its not like he was riding coattails there. Seems to me he has been much more of a driver... not a passenger.

He's played with some good players but I have the feeling he's doing just as much for them as they are doing for him.

I might to have agree with Gopher Blog on this one. Not only did he do it as a 16yr - He did it has a 15yr with Shattuck Tier 1 Bantam. Scored 170 points that season. Nathan McKinnon who is now playing for the Colorado Avalanche as a 18yr old. Scored 101pts -both in 58 games at that Shattuck Teir 1 team. Cammaratta a had 92G and 78 assist for a total of 170pts. Connor Hurley (58 games/59 points) played on that team as well...and I am sure for both Mckinnon and Hurley that Cammaratta was the go to guy most of the time...and quite sure he made those guys better.

I don't see why he would be first line PP for the Gophers if the Gophs were trying to better HIM....I don't think so - Cammaratta's hockey IQ and passing skills are so off the charts good - I think the Gophs put him on the PP to better the PP - not matter who's with him..

It's without saying that his size is a factor - but, in the end, he will make players better around him - not visa versa. Has always done it. Is doing it now and I hope he continues as far as he can.

I don't know where his pro career will go, but I am in his corner cheering for the best.

Can I ask you to give me an honest answer to the question of; "how many times did you actually see him play in person his 2 years in Waterloo?"

The style of play and the way he was utilized by PK in Waterloo differed GREATLY on what he was able to do at the U. He literally had close to zero d zone responsibility in Waterloo and often hung out in the neutral zone behind defenders waiting for an outlet pass. What he did offensive speaking in Waterloo is not to be discounted in anyway. Doing it against d-men who are 16-20 though is a lot diff than d-men who are 21-24, physically mature and playing at a much faster speed. His weaknesses were exploited largely in the first 3+ months of the season and it was apparent he was trying to figure out how to adapt to the change in pace, speed and physicality.

A few games both seasons he was there.

I don't really dispute that he didn't have to be as defensively responsible as he needs to be now. But your original comment never focused on defense either (nor did I dispute anything about his defensive play). The point seemed to be he was benefiting a lot as a result of who he was playing with the last few years and I pointed out where there are flaws in that argument.

As for figuring out how to adapt in the early months in college, he had 12 pts. in his first 11 games played this season and was a +7 in those games. That's not a bad way to adapt.

Like any freshman (especially a true freshman), there will be lulls in a long season.
