Greenway has been really struggling to score goals. They need Taylor Lantz at full strenght in order to be a legitimate upset threat. The way they are playing now, Virginia should be seeded ahead of them. Virginia has continued to improve while Greenway has regressed.

While Greenway has hit a late season swoon, they did beat Virginia in their last meeting and having a one goal game vs Hibbing should keep them at 5. And Virginia's record since the Greenway game hasn't been good. (They have played some good teams though.)
If Virginia upsets Hibbing tomorrow, then Virginia may overcome the sweep by E-G and grab the 6, but I have a hard time seeing them get up to 5.

7A seeding meeting today. Shouldn't be much argument at all about who gets what seed.
1. Hermantown
2. Duluth Marshall
3. Denfeld
4. Hibbing
5. Greenway
6. Eveleth-Gilbert
7. Virginia
8. North Shore
9. I-Falls
10. Ely
Maybe a change in 6-8 , but the others seem set in stone. Barring a huge upset, the semis should be fantastic at Amsoil. The top three should breeze into the semis, but Greenway's goalie has been on fire as of late, stopping 34/36 against Hibbing and 58/61 against Duluth Marshall, so the 4-5 game could get interesting.

What has been going on with DM lately? It seems like they started out on a roll and have dropped off lately. Injuries or something?
I think that 7A will be a good go as any of the top 3 teams (assuming DM is at full speed) has a shot at winning it. Hard to bet against Hermantown but also very hard to discard DM or DD.

I would not count out Hibbing!! Maybe the Jackets did not have a very impressive regular season but coach Decenzo always gets his players to play better at this time of year The Jackets always seem to give the Hawks a scare everytime they play (last night Hawks 5, Jackets 4). Don' t forget that Hibbing played in the section final some dozen straight years and made it to state 3 times!! While I still think the Hawks will advance out of the section, you have to be concerned as to if Plante's team will get overconfident and start thinking too far ahead to the state tournament(Eveleth in 1999 is a prime example).

I don;t really see them getting over confident as much as I see them running like a well oiled machine that is good and knows it. He has them playing that system that he likes and by this time of the year they have it down pat. What I do see though is somebody figuring out a way to counter it. He has not really changed the system just the kids in it and if somebody was/is able to get a counter figured out to it and had a few kids who were/are able to run the counter it is a new game.
Hibbing did a nice job but I think that if Denfeld can stay out of the box and get some production across the board I think they can beat them.

I like where you're heading with the Hibbing praise, but DeCenzo retired two seasons ago. However, the current head coach Versich was an assistant for him for many years, so I'm sure he picked up on some coaching success secrets.
I'd love to think Hibbing will take down the Hawks (provided they beat Greenway first), but having last change will be a big advantage for Plante with that ridiculous top line they have. And really, when does Hermantown ever get upset by anyone? Especially in the playoffs.
I don't think overconfidence will be an issue for them. The scores are deceiving against Marshall as the Hilltoppers played them very tough both times, Denfeld only lost 3-1, and Hibbing just gave them all they could handle. Thus I'm sure the Hawks will be all business with a laser focus knowing what these teams are capable of.

Marshall beating them wouldn't really be that big of a surprise. Both games this year were tightly played don't let the scores fool you. Looking forward to some great games!

Agreed. I meant that tongue-in-cheek. It would be an upset if DM won, but no one's mind would be blown and their socks would still be firmly on their feet.

I really don't think it would be a shock. As you have alluded to, the games with Denfeld, Hibbing and Marshall have been close.

4 games in one day at an awesome arena! State tourney style in Duluth? Sounds like the best idea ever!!! Besides, what eating options are there in the cultural mecca of Hibbing? McDonald's and DQ?

I gotta agree with you DJ, the four games in a day thing is great. It really makes an event out of it and it should boost attendance all around. The semi games in Hibbing and Rapids were fun, but usually the game in Hibbing was something like Virginia versus Marshall or Denfeld and the arena wasn't exactly rockin'. (Although the crowd at the Hibbing-Hermantown game last night was one of the best I've seen in a while, which did remind me how great that place can be when its packed.)
As for ripping on culture in Hibbing? I forgot that Grand Rapids, (i.e. the Paris of the northwoods) has its own Taco Bell. High class all the way.
Should be a fantastic day of hockey next Saturday!

I didn't mean to say Grand Rapids is a great food town by leaving them out lol. Not that Duluth either is outstanding, but is the best of northern MN. Really nowhere in the entire midwest compares to the West Coast from Anchorage down to Los Angeles.

Where to eat is not even a factor on whether or not someone goes to a semifinal game. I was at the AA semis at Amsoil last year. Worst atmosphere I have ever been a part of for semifinal games. The arena wasn't much more then 1/2 full for the East/Rapids game and the ER/Andover game would have only half filled Hodgins-Berardo Arena. Hopefully, East, Rapids and Cloquet make it to the semis, then I think the atmosphere would be much better. Attendance at the A semis will be interesting. More then likely 3 Duluth area teams and Hibbing. Hibbing will travel well, so I expect a fun night.

I am not making it up to Amsoil but I am hoping Hibbing makes it down to the X. I would really like to see this Perunovich Sophomore Defenseman. He is leading the team in scoring by nearly 20 points, ....from the back line..... as a sophomore? What?
Is the accent on the no? Peru-NO-vich? Good handle for D.

If you remember, the road conditions were horrible that weekend. I was at 50 mph on I35 that morning from St. Paul. I think parts of I35 were shut down the day before. I hope the 7A fans show up early for the 7AA games too and make a day of it. As for your first sentence, thank you captain obvious.
