Thats an easy one puck-
You charge $1500 for each player and it only costs $1000. Nice profit when you have hundreds of kids in the program.

I don't know about you guys, but I go to all the board meetings and look at all the budget sheets where my kids play. We don't have an extra dime to spare. It sounds like the case up in Hibbing last season.

not sure if I agree you would be blackballed- especially if a group of people brought it up. Does the couple of associations feel like these individuals they are paying give them good value. If so then good luck to them.

So you have all cried about how bad the refs are in your district. So let's all go sit for 4 hours in the meetings next year and we can ref. I am sure that we can all do better then what is out there now...

Oh, that's right, we want to complain about it instead of do it ourselfs. Maybe that is why refs are so bad, You go to a four hour class and now you don't have to answer to anyone. I am sure the districts spot check there refs but they know when the grader is there so they do there best.
I know in the TC district I have seen at least 45 games and have only seen an evaluation person at one game. Good gig huh!!!!. $27.00 each ref in Pee Wee level for an hour work and few guide lines.

From what I am reading is that Duluth and Highland they pay a coordnator to do what most of coordnators do free in most associations.
Could it be maybe there might some of that money going under the table for a few calls here and there. Or maybe to get there way in key situations and votes?
Money talks and Bull--it walks kinda thing.<img src=

You guys crack me up!!!!
You really, honestly, think that some/any/all/one of these ref's are seeing CASH under the table to make or ignore a penalty in a Squirt/Peewee/Bantam game?

HockeyHelp30 has a point a don't see any of you out there doing the job. So before you complain get to the class. It's not as easy as it looks, they can easily miss things. I know from experience I'm a player and a ref and I thought it would be easy to, but it is easy to miss things.

Oh and by the way you would have to go through 2-3 years of that class to ref bantams.

this could be bigger than the NHL gambling ring!! Maybe a Dateline NBC reporter will go undercover to follow the money trail to refs in Squirt B hockey.

haha, I seriously don't think people are paying refs to ignore/call penalties in youth hockey. I mean C'mon.

Edited by: <A HREF=

Does anyone in any other association other than these mentioned make $25,000 or more a year for youth hockey?
I barely make over that at my full time job.<img src=

Sure, there are questionable calls made/ignored. There are calls like that in most games. The last time we played Johnson (for example), there was a questionable tripping call made with 1 minute left in a 3-3 tie game, after letting numerous, more blatant calls calls go in the rest of the period (both ways). I, personally, thought the call was a joke, should have never been made. BUT, it never crossed my mind that the officials could have possibly been paid off to make that call.

Maybe Johnson did pay the refs after all they have always gotten all the calls when our teams play them. But they seldom win the league it is usaually Highland and once in awhile someone else.

From what I hear Johnson can't afford to buy refs, I also heard they have a new president they have and the secretary are balancing there budget which has not been in the black for years. Como is having all kinds of problems, They had to have another fund raiser just to pay the ice bills.

Edited by: <A HREF=

More Games

It goes back to the problem with youth hockey. We want to see Billy compete instead of practice so you have 30-40 league games in the metro area ever night. That is about 90 refs if you count batams and juniors with 3 on the ice. Do you think that there are that many good refs in the state. How long would you sit in a class before you decide it's not worth it. After my 3rd coaching class (24 hours of bs) I was wondering, and I don't get paid!

The refs don't alway no that they are being evaluated but I also don't think that you are going to have 30-40 additional evaluators that will go out EVER NIGHT and watch games. I think every one that has complained about officials on this board should go through the class and try it next year. It looks alot diffrent from the ice then it does from the stands!

We play a D4 schedule, tournament's in 3 other district's and other games elsewhere. I have found that the ref's do a pretty good job. Some better than other's but never that bad. After a game with 17 penalties called on us, I looked back and realized they did a good job, better than the coaches or player's!

I dont know if anyone here was in the Bantam "A" Bloomington Silver Stick tourney over Christmas break, but that tourney held some of the worst refing i have ever seen. I know its fine to let some stuff go, but when you have kids punching others in the back of the head into the boards, punching the goalie in the face after the whistle, and flippen Head-butting people after the whistle... Thats crap.

Did anyone get hurt though? I can see your point where thats crap, but if no one got hurt, and it ddin't get too out of line, I think i would rather have the refs let things go than call absolutely everything, try and control the game and not let you play.

I do agree with you that the refs should let more stuff go. there is nothing that i hate more than to have a ref calling everything. But when it gets to the point where kids are getting just 2 minute minors for Head-Checking from Behind and punching goalies in the face, it just pisses me off. And yes, one of our players messed his knee up bad cause some kid stuck out his knee , and another player got a concussion cause some kid punched him in the back of the head (right in front of the ref). -4mn word4- y? were you in that tournament?
