My Bets
Tues 2/3
JM 4 Owatonna 3 JM seeks revenge, hopefully Bonapace is healthy and in nets
Mankato West 4 Austin 2 MW is playing well but will take Austin lightly
Northfield 5 Shakopee 3 Northfield seeks revenge
Mayo 8 Mankato East 2 Mayo rolls, backup goalie in nets?

Thurs 2/5
JM 5 Faribo 3 Falcons overconfident
Farmington 3 Northfield 1
Mayo 7 Austin 2
Albert Lea 5 Century 1

edit almost forgot one
Dodge County 6 Red Wing 4 DCs size outmuscles the young Wingers
What are you smokin? JM over Owatonna and Faribault, must be something messing with your mind down there in Roch.
If Faribault is healthy--Falcons 6- JM 2.
Owataonna beat them, without their starting goalie and 2 forwards out sick. HMMMM

The local teams call them into KTTC so either the MW or Austin people gave them bum info. The Mayo score was on the news this morning.

Just for every one's edification, I was in the hospital with the rest of the falcon team that was sick for the A.L. game. Although I hate to say it, A.L. played well. However, it is but a flesh wound and I really don't feel that it will affect the seeding, Fbo is still a solid #3. I read some banter regarding A.L. moving up, however the writer failed to mention A.L.'s loss to Austin, their inferior over all record and Fbo's quality wins against Mound and N.U,. Unless we run the table with J.M., Owt and West we are the #3 seed, just were we want to be.

Rocket is still an apologist for Rochester!! They have a city of 100,000 people, get over not being able to co-op!!! You don't deserve to co-op and shouldn't be allowed to do so. Sorry if your youth programs can't feed three schools at a winning level, but deal with being beat up by smaller towns. We have had to deal with playing 7 & 8 graders against your co-op teams for years. Faribault 6 JM 2

It is good to see that this forum has come to include a Dodge County link. It's not that big nine schools are "afraid" to play them, we would rather play better teams, such as North Wright County, Mound Westtonnka, Buffalo, Fergus Falls and New Ulm. Coach u are very dedicated to your girls and nice win against Nlfd. Good luck in the future and if you get to 1A, look us up.

Southside, just hope Rose stays healthy because I don't know who would cover the 50 mins of ice time she gets each night. I think she has logged more ice time than Fbo's starting goalie, and we have only one goalie.

As always, GO GREEN!!!

Seeds 1 and 2 will go to RW and NFLD respectively, I see Faribo as a 3 seed and Austin as the 4. Which means I'm grinning ear to ear given how handily AL beat Faribo last week  (shoot, I forgot to take into account the home cooking at Faribo's rink)

First off I hope they found a drug that will cure you. If you actually read, you might notice that my post was in answer to Bensonmum's Q about why DC is not in the Big 9 and not a call to go with only 2 teams. I stated just the facts regarding the restructing of the coops. The interesting info from the DC coach is that if they drop PI they will be 1A. If Lourdes separates from their coop they would be 1A too. If you want to see mega-coops, you should check out the size of the schools in the coops like North Metro, Novas, St Paul United etc. I had heard that DC had a couple of girls waived to play with Roch but did not realize that they had as many scattered around as they do. As far as RYHA not being able to feed 3 H/S teams that was an issue since the youth numbers were not there to support it 3 yrs ago. They'll come along. The 12B team has improved quite a bit over past years.

Imagine playing the game on Thursday without Seitz. It looks like that is what the Rockets will be doing. Bonapace is still hurt I guess. I'm still going to back 'em though.

Falcon 89 fan, I hope Rose stays healthy too. Rose is arguably the best player in the state and one couldn't begin to figure out how to fill her skates.

That being said, Red Wing is 2-1 in their last three games without Rose scoring a goal. Rose has really picked up her play within this time period. One would ask how that is possible considering how good she is, but what great players do is make their teammates better and that's exactly what she has done.

I won't guarantee a section championship, but won't bet against us either. Like you Falcon, it is nice being from a town where all the kids play together growing up. I think it pays huge dividends in the long run and builds team unity and cohesiveness.

Come on now... Rose is very good, very very good but that statement is ridiculous... The best player is the state... really now...

Downey- PHM, Komarek- Blake, Loken and Lane- Roseau, Romo HA, Kortum- Hopkins, Anderson- Shakopee,

Take off your redwing colored glasses...

I said arguably. Talk about colored glasses, Anderson from Shako??? That comment is laughable at best. You better come up with something better than that!!!

I have seen most of them play on your list and tell me mister scouting wizard, what coach would take any one of them over Rose?

How is that laughable... She is big, strong, fast, has a great shot, great hands

She is visiting several D1 schools and will play at the D1 level

It's laughable, because even though she is a good player, she is not better than Rose. Rose has her choice of any D1 school and could have left Red Wing, but chose to stay because of her loyalty to the community.

I can't say anything against this Rose girl because I haven't seen her play, but I have seen many others on the list and that is mighty good company to be in if you're talking about high school girl's hockey players.

That is outstanding for her to be able to "haver her choice of any D1 school"and very commendable of her to stay in her community. Like 97 said, that is some very impressive company to be with and to make a statement that she is better than these girls I think is not accurate. Rose is an extremley talented player, logs a ton of ice AND still seems to have gas in the tank when you think she shouldn't.

Komarek- Dartmouth
Kortum, Downey- Gophers
Romo- Harvard
Loken- No Dak
Lane- St. Cloud
Anderson- Quinnipiac, Providence, Colgate or UConn.

I hope Rose does get to go where she wants to- she is a very special player... I was merely commenting on your choice of words- not her talent and ability.

I'll even add some to the list. (some underclassmen) All can probably attend and play for the D1 school of their choice.
Dana Gallop, Morgan, & Megan Illikainan Grand Rapids/Greenway
Brook Storey, Karly Sylvester, Layla Marvin-Warroad
Jen Paul-River Lakes
Ashley Stenerson-Moorhead
Erika Wheelhouse, Shannon Kaiser-Crookston
Abby Ness-Roseau
Leah Jensen-EGF
Jessica Christofferson-Bemidji
Ericka Magnussen-Fergus Falls
Alex Nelson-Andover
Johnna Curtis-Elk River
These are just some I have seen this year. There are more out there that I have not seen, at least yet. Some have already chosen their school.

Well arguably states just that, up for argument. My choice of word(s) were correct in the context in which they were used.

We can agree to disagree. :D

Good luck to all the teams in their respective sections!

It's nice to see that RSI acknowledges that A.L. will be a 5 seed. 2-3 dosen't matter, except 3 seed gets the warmup game with Wasc.
IF Faribault runs the table, which is a big "if", they could make a push for #1 seed.

Rocket, I didn't know ur goalie was hurt, too bad she is a good player. Mabey should be Fbo 7 J.M. 1 than.

For what it is worth, Rose is a good player and no one can take that away from her. but she also logs about twice as much ice time as Anderson. Shakopee usually skates 3 lines so that means Nikki is on the ice about a 3rd of the time where Rose A is on the ice about 3/4ths of the game and even with less ice time Nikki still manages to score more goals than Rose A
I know Rose A, is usually on D but she is allowed to skate anywhere she wants and when she wants.
Each is different in there styles of play Nikki is Big( about 6') and strong great shooter. Rose is a work horse. But really I do not think you should be laughing to hard.

Just for SouthSide I started a whole new topic just on Rose, so it will be all Rosie, all the time.

If I were Rose's parents I may consider a restraining order, SouthSide seems a little too obsessed. :D

The state of girls hockey

I think it's great there is so much talk about how good these girls hockey players are. College scholarships and opportunities for these girls didn't exist not too long ago.
I've seen Rosie play for the Wingers for five years now and she is a great skater, a tremendous student and a real inspiration to the younger girls hockey players in town. The great thing is there are many players like this in the state and girls hockey continues to improve every year.
The Section 1A tourney should be fun with a number of teams evenly matched.

I was saying AL was a 5 seed almost 2 weeks ago, well before our girls thumped Faribo 5-1
I understand your "Go Green" signature now, you just keep recycling the same bits over and over :P :P

RSI's projections (Really going out on a limb here :P )
Seedings:
1. RW
2. NFLD
3. Faribo
4. Austin
5. AL
6. Waseca

First Round
Waseca @ Faribo
AL @ Austin

Second Round @ Owatonna
RW vs. AL
NFLD vs. Faribo

Section 1A thread is the hottest thread in town. You can discuss anything here. We are so open minded. We talk year after year about Rochester. By the way, I saw firecracker78 (rocket78) at the game the other night. He was the old guy wearing a shirt that says " I need attention!!" If he had only worn a helment in the 70's.... he would of saved his other brain cell.

RSI, you had one home cooked regular season win. Move on, or we can discuss the entire history of Albert Lea GIRLS hockey. Maybe we could title the book " Not walking the talk". :P

I agree with the seedings RSI posted, just not the outcomes.

Redwing has the best player and we know the history of section 1A. The best player's teams always seem to win it, each year. Redwing without Rose, loses. Northfield has a very strong team and Dvorak could be the second best player in the section. However, Dvorak can not carry a team like rose. We are in the mix, and who knows, we do play the game for a reason. Albert Lea is better then Austin and they have RSI to carry them.

Faribault is the greatest.

Guaranteed a 3rd seed?? Wow! I will say it's likely, but not guaranteed. If I'm the seeding committee I'm going to have a tough time seeding team A ahead of team B if team B just thumped team A late in the season 5-1.

RSI, didn't look like you were predicting a 5 seed on the last quote. Look at your past posts before you make your bold statements.

I do like to recycle, however I am aware of what I write and stay true to it!!

Hopefully you didn't hurt youself jumping back on the A.L. bandwagon.

-You disagree with my outcomes?? Are you guys going to take one on the chin from Waseca? :P :P
-good point on the the teams with the best player winning the section.
-I could carry this team, think I can't.

falcons fan
-Try reading that first quote again, this time take off the green colored glasses. I clearly state that it's likely Faribo gets the 3rd seed, however your loss to AL no longer guarantees it. shees.
-Don't worry I am still fully intact. I don't think AL advancing is out of the question, they've shown they can play with any team in the Section.
1. 2-1 ot loss to NFLD
2. 2-1 ot loss to RW
3. 5-1 win against Faribo

I have followed these teams for some time now, and I have to agree that AL and Austin aren't out of the picture yet. Yes these teams have had a rough season, but when it counts these girls can pull it together. RW has a great player but what happens if she is shut down? could RW wing with Roise not being able to put the puck in the net for them? And NF they also have a great team, but something must be going on there, these last few weeks have really hurt their win/loss ratio. and FB wow what a team, but sometimes excuses are the only thing they are good at ;) .... anyways my point is, each team has some amazing qualities and I just think these sections might show the most upset we've seen all yr! I agree with seedings set at 1. RW 2. NF 3. FB 4. A 5. AL 6. W ... but I am excited to see what happens with these teams when the true pressure is on! I have a good feeling the way the teams are seeded will have nothing to do with the final results. Good luck to all teams!
