So, why did the Grand Rapids bench have hand-warming contraptions for Saturday's outdoor game and the Benilde bench did not?

Its called a sunflower heater, which are fueled by propane or electricity.

Most ice fishermen use them.

I assume GR brought their own, and I don't consider it an unfair advantage considering the fact they came prepared and BSM did not.

The Venn Diagram intersection of "ice fishermen" and "BSM" is sparsely populated.

But I bet that the full-length fur coats that some of those moms were wearing in the VIP section were warm enough, though.

I'm looking forward to these 2 teams meeting again at the X.

Should they both make it through the sections, the seeding people would do the state hockey fans justice to have these teams play in game 1 for AA.

Well, since they only seed the top 5 teams (wink, nudge, say no more), then it'd have to be #4 Hill vs #5 BSM, right?

Works for me. :)

almosthappy....I see what you're saying but I would just love to see BSM and the G R go at it on a clean sheet of ice with no wind.

Maybe coach didn't want them. Much like Bud use to do with the Vikings.

But the BSM kids were all able to train with Bernie at the "Made".

The mink wearing BSM daddies have probably never even heard of hand warmers.... 99 cents at Gander.

I would love to see these two meet at the X, but it is going to be tough seeing how they come out of the two hardest sections in the state.

GR was prepared for the elements and BSM's team wasn't. It's not like nobody had any idea that it was going to be that cold.

Now that is too darn funny

Teams had to rely on providing their own heat.

How many bsm parents or players even knew where grand rapids was beforehand ? Much less think of heaters.. which most probly didn't even know existed.
I have to agree, seems it was an advantage which rapids took advantage of unfairly.. had any of them ever been on a frozen lake?

The only advantages I see Rapids having were intelligence and foresight. BSM parents and players didn't know where Rapids was? If that is true (and I don't believe it is), then it only speaks to arrogance.

Bet they know where Grand Rapids is now. Knowledge of tradition in Minnesota high school hockey should have taught them that beforehand.

God help them if they had to play outside in Roseau or Warroad, eh?

Really?

Being well prepared is now an unfair advantage?

That's pushing it, D... Unless you are being sarcastic.

So which is it? Are private school parents parochial and ignorant of anything outside of the metro area, or are they so wealthy they can take lavish vacations and own comfortable cabins in lake country? Decide which it is, be consistent.

And if BSM parents are acceptable targets, is it OK to call the rubes from the Range a bunch of bumpkins?

I'd love to see that BSM-Grand Rapids rematch in March. It'll be a lot better on the big sheet at Mariucci.

I'd prefer to see an East-Wayzata rematch myself. :)

That, too, would be a great game at Mariucci. I'll sell you my consolation tickets.

It would be a blanket statement either way.

And both show true ignorance as well.

Perhaps people were merely poking fun, and we shouldn't take it to heart.
