The co-op enrolment puts them over the limit for Class A.

Along with LSHSPTCUC. Gotta love these "big schools" getting forced up to the level where they belong!
I wish they'd find a way to make longer-term exceptions for these programs that need 5+ schools to put a team together.

People arent gonna be happy, but boy oh boy does it make sence in class A for Cathedral and Hermantown.
Unfortunately 5A also becomes a weak section along with 3A.
6AA wasnt broken up and St Thomas has to go through Eagan and Eastview now.
Burnsville or Prior Lake wernt added to 1AA which is suprising.
Cant say im suprised at the lack of change though.

This is great. Nothing to complain about geographically. They really nailed it this time. Great job to the MSHSL on these sections.
Did Minnehaha opt up, or is their co-op numbers what bumped them into AA?
Looking forward to the STA/CDH section games!

Kennedy is going A? Wow. I know they haven't been competitive, but their enrollment is down too?

What is the rational for putting co-op teams in AA? Teams don't co-op to form one big "super team." Teams co-op because one or all of the teams can't field a team without co-oping. Putting them in AA makes zero sense to me.

Under the rules straight enrolment numbers for all the schools are used to determine the enrolment for a co-op team.

I know what the rule is. It's clear. I'm asking for the rational for the rule.
If we are counting a kid who gets a lunch for free or at a reduced price from the state as less than a person for a very legitimate reason, doesn't it seem that having to co-op is an even
better reason to count them differently?

Hey now, no need to be snippy.
There's always a chance that STA and CDH would meet in the Section quarterfinals.

Not sure sure what I said he is commenting on. Was it me congratulating the MSHSL for getting section alignments right or for being happy to be in the same section as my alma mater's 100+ year rival?
almostashappy, doesn't matter what round it is, the venue will be packed.

The fact that they are placed in AA is a way to prevent teams from trying the "super team" tactic. The logic is, "it's not worth joining those organizations to get better because we'll have to be bumped up." Some associations don't mind the bump up because it only affects them in the postseason.
Also co-ops aren't usually formed because that's the only way a team can be formed. It's usually a way to get some kids from a school that may not enough players to form a team on their own playing the game. Occasionally the school or schools that get added bump the original school that could have its own team from A to AA, which is unfair to the school that accepts the smaller one. That's how New Ulm has gotten their petitions passed recently.

That, I don't doubt.
I'll be curious to see what Eagan's non-conf schedule looks like next year now that STA is a section opponent. Got a non-conf slot available (assuming no re-invite to HDM).
MSHSL spokesperson (@MSHSLjohn) has a twitter account, and just posted this gem:
MSHSLjohn No one has pushed for that. RT @jcrpete: @MSHSLjohn Has there been talk of private school league vs. public school league? #mshsl
Nobody has pushed for a private school league? He obviously hasn't been following some of the threads in this forum.
